How to Make Good Use of Coles Targeted Offer?

Hi,Ozbargain friends.I am sure many of you have received Coles recent Targeted offers like spend $50($60,$70,etc.) for 4 weeks to get 10k Flybuys points(or $50 off a next shop).

My question is how to make good use of(or take advantage of) this offer for an ozbargainer who can not spend $50 in one transaction? As I know, some Coles now have Opal Topup Service(Sydney only). So does this count towards $50 spending?

If you have other great ideas, please do not hesitate to share. Thanks!

Just stock up on something that you (a) need or will need, and (b) is on special.

    detergent, toilet paper, etc

They count phone recharges as part of a minimum spend.

Ask someone who u see in store who has a decent amount of goods if u can combine shop and u scan ur flybuyers whilst u pay them cash for ur items, or if they can pay cash for theirs.

    Seriously, no harm trying

  • Just be very sure to buy stuff you REALLY need otherwise you negate the savings buying stuff you don't use or will throw out. And buy stuff that's on special or at least not more than comparable stuff elsewhere (Aldi, Woolies, IGA).

I get these offers too and just ignore them because it's hard enough as it is to spend $30. Don't let them trap you into needless spending to chase $50.

Woolworths have excluded Opal top ups and phone recharges from their targeted offers but I don't know whether Coles/Flybuys have yet. The terms exclude gift cards but Flybuys may attempt to extend their definition to any type of pre loaded value cards and I'm guessing Opal fits into this category.

I agree with the comments so far. Buy specials and products that don't change in price from week to week. Examine how much of the purchases will end up in your stockpile of non perishable products. If more than $50 value out of the required $200 spend for the 4 weeks will end up in your stockpile, you're not actually ending up with extra money in your bank account. Stockpiles are great but you have to factor in where you need your money.

Choose the points option rather than the $50 discount option. It sounds like you make small regular shopping trips to Coles. If you convert your points to flybuys dollars you will be able to use these over multiple transactions in the next few weeks after the 4 week promotion. If you take the discount you will be forced to make another transaction over $50 in order for you to get the benefit from the offer.

  • anyone know if redeeming a $10 off using 2000 pt with coles MC affect the amount spent? ie if the offer requires $50, you spend $50 but redeem $10 off, the net you pay is $40, so does the offer still works?

If you use the Mastercard technique the $10 comes off as a discount. This means that you won't meet your target of $50 if you use the $10 off function as it will be seen as discount and not a payment method. The target for offers must be met after all discounts and specials.

      • coles and their staff are sure very sneaky. Didnt ask me and just redeem, they probably want people not to reach so they can save money. The staff knows as I gave her a docket offer saying spend $50 get 1000pt…by redeeming $10, coles saved $5 (1000pt) but lost me as customer!

        • Turn off the function on your Mastercard so it doesn't give the option to redeem points. I can't remember whether this is a flybuys setting or a Mastercard setting.

  • As for the topic's question, you can buy stuff and return it after. Example, baby nappies are expensive (maybe the most expensive thing with the return guarantee) and have the return guarantee. So buy the nappies to make up the value of the shop. Then return them because you are not 100% happy with them. You'll get your target easily.
