ipad mini 2 as its the same as the ipad mini 3 except for touch id.
You'll get much longer support (software updates) on the iPad mini 2 as it's still being sold along with the iPad mini 4. The iPad mini 2 also has a 64-bit processor as compared to the 32-bit processor found in the 1st generation iPad mini.
The retina screen is also really worth it, compare the two side by side if you get the chance and you'll see what I mean.
Not to mention, as ozhunter said, the iPad mini 2 is identical to the iPad mini 3 except for the Touch ID sensor and a few grams of weight.
Get the iPad mini 2; I have the original iPad mini and it needs more RAM (which the mini 2 will have)
iPad mini2 definitely. The Retina screen is well worth it.

If you choose ipad mini 1, I suggest a bigger screen for a cheaper price (bargain) —> it is called Ipad 2.
People get the mini because it has a smaller screen
iPad Mini 2. I have iPad mini 1. Slow as shit. Go second hand if it's significantly cheaper.
Mini 2. If you need cellular then go for it. Its convenient not lugging around a pocket wifi or draining a phone batt for cellular model.
whats the difference between them all? Find that out and it may help you decide.
