170

From 9am on Friday 19 February, Opera Australia will release 200 tickets to The Barber of Seville for 200 cents each, available for purchase by anyone aged under 30. Tickets are for performances on 10, 12, 14 or 16 March 2016 and are subject to availability. Tickets can only be purchased in-person at the Opera Australia Sydney box office at 480 Elizabeth Street, Surry Hills. Cash sales only, first-come-first-served, one ticket per person, ID must be presented as proof of age, the 200 special youth discounted tickets will be available until 4pm Friday 19 February or until sold out.

Very cheap price and good chance for those who haven't seen an opera at the opera house. Normal ticket price range from $44 to $299. More likely you are getting the $44 tickets instead of the $299.

    What a price cut.

  • Would it work if someone under 30 years old bought it and gave the ticket to someone over 30 years old? Would someone at the Opera House still check ID then?

I think these tickets are for the loge and for standing room. Loge is on the side which has an obstructed view of the stage as well as the surtitles (opera subtitles). At interval if seats are free you can usually hop in them and the ushers won't notice (too many people to know where everyone is sitting). This is a great and funny opera, but 1.5 hours before the first interval so pee beforehand.

  • 9am? Is it a dress rehearsal?

    • its just 9am when the tickets go on sale, not the actual show start time…:)
