  • This is in India, for people wondering where.

    • 4 months delivery time, within India only

Frequencies: GSM : 850/900/1800/1900 MHz HSDPA : 900/2100 MHz (ie. Optus 3G, no 4G) in case anyone was thinking of getting some relatives to order one and send over!

Considering how many mobile phones are sitting in cupboards/drawers not being used we as a society should be encouraging more reuse and recycling instead of this sort of cheap rubbish which will most likely end up in landfill.

The same goes for many things.

Last year I replaced a $2 capacitor in a 10 year old 21 inch LCD monitor and its working perfectly again
A few days ago I cleaned connectors and the dust out of a 40 inch LCD TV that wouldn't turn on with button or remote and its working perfectly again.
Most people would have binned them both.

I have no electronics experience but I can use google.

I admire you for doing that Davros. I try to do the same as well. We live in such a careless/thoughtless/greedy world these days…

      • In December i found a 23" Dell monitor by the roadside. Opened it up and a gheko had gotten inside and shorted the power board. Cleaned out the gheko remains and wiped down the board and the monitor fired up.

        Recycle for the win.

        • What about the gheko ?

        • @Baysew: It tasted like chicken

        • +2

Gheko was recycled into a sandwich.

        • @Davros: Ogalo or KFC?

      • No electronics experience but you can identify a faulty capacitor and de-solder it, and have the tools for it? Pretty sure those tools cost a lot more than $2.

        • A simple soldering iron can be had for something like $5-$10. A decent Hakko clone soldering station for something like $25. But he said he replaced a $2 cap, not spent $2 altogether.

ID is easy enough - caps are a well-known issue and most people can match with photos on Google, especially when it's obviously bulging or even blown up.

  • Isn't the government kicking in some funding to keep the costs down?

    • I think there was an initial grant to set it up but they have grown from there.
It looks like they are heavily subsidised by pre-installed apps and defaults.
Probably cost them $10-15 per phone cost wise

  • Saw a few pics of this phone froma review that was linked ovee at WP.

Firstly they showed liquid paper over the oeiginal manufacturers name secondly the launcher has massive similarities to apple ios look. For example the safari icon is web browser but its not safari.

The original manufacturer/branded company are investigating into this.
