So I had this handy little Aldi tablet with kb/battery/hdd that I bought on a whim 2 years ago
Son just started Yr8 and needed device - boom
The 2nd boom was when he dropped it o the floor - smashed screen etc
No point fixing an Aldi so looking for alternatives
Wants
Windows
Keyboard - detachable is great
10 inch or above
Decent battery life - at least 5 hours but 8+ better
Pen not essential but preferable
Other specs - useable e.g. enough ram and fast enough cpu for office & net without killing battery
Budget - ideally <$500 or less
There are older threads but wondering if anyone had anything new
Anything no-name or yum-cha considered at right prices
Cheers
The 11.6" Pendo convertible tablet is now $299 from Dick Smith

I reviewed it on the deal I posted here and gave it a somewhat average grade. It is no doubt the cheapest 'yum-cha' 11.6" Windows tablet with 1080p display that you can buy locally with local warranty. The cincher is that the future of Dick Smith is uncertain and there's a strong probability there will be no DSE in the future to help with product returns.
Officeworks sells it too, but price matching will be a tad difficult.
If you have more money to spend I would highly recommend getting the ASUS Transformer book T100HA which retails for around $400 AUD
An for $500 dollars you can get a refurbished Inspiron 11 3000 series (2 in 1, not detachable) laptop with Core i3 processor from Dell Outlet. While the build quality is lacking and is a heavier than a detachable, it's more powerful than most and has expandable options (4GB of RAM is upgradable and you can also throw in an SSD)
and if you have more money to spend still I'd probably look into getting a second hand or refurbished Surface Pro tablet, these will have proper active stylus support and the best build quality.
