I need a DVD Potable Optical Drive

Hi,

I am looking for a slim DVD optical drive. My optical drive for my macbook is faulty. Hardly use it anyway, so I dun mind a cheap and reasonable one.

    I think we may both be in the same boat. My MacBook makes a grinding noise similar to that of my coffee machine when a CD is inserted sigh

    If you don't mind undoing a screw I'm pretty sure you can pop the old DVD drive out. I'm not an expert but I've done it with laptops before but never a Mac. I think you'll find that there's a single screw about the length of a disc from the edge, and once you remove it you should be able to easily push the metal bracket underneath to pop the whole drive out the side if that makes sense. There are always cheap internal DVD drives on eBay, and you can probably replace the bezel/cover with the original mac one.

      It's a lot harder on a Mac. I once had to take an iBook apart to retrieve a HDD. Incredibly time consuming and harder compared to a more standard machine.

    i agree. Mac is not easy to dismantle. Inherentchoice, home made? Do u hav the website link for it?

      Okay by home made I mean I went to eBay and bought a 2nd hand internal drive and a new USB enclosure. Now it's just like the DX one but I paid about $30 for it…

        I get what you were saying mate, I just wish I could have dismantled it but it's just ever so hard. Thankfully my main PC is a desktop so I burn on that :D

    THe thing about my mac is, the drive can read audio cd but not video. I think its partially spoilt, well, thats what the mac guys told me.
