To The Bludgers out There - What Bludge Job Do You Have and How Did You Get It?

Hi guys!

Recently, Ozbargainer grabngo indicated he had 15 hours free in a 40 hour week.

What kind of jobs allow you to have that much 'bludge time'? When I graduate in five years, my guaranteed job earns me an okay 65k salary and no 'bludge' time :(. What degree and experiences allowed you to gain a 'bludge' job?

Thanks!

I did an IT based degree. It all depends on the workplace. I was lucky enough to fall into a job with a company straight out of Uni (11 years ago) where I can honestly say I've never worked a 40 hour week.. If I was being honest I could probably count the amount of days I've worked to 5pm over the 11 years on my fingers and toes. When I first started it probably averaged out to about 2-3 hours a day. In one of my roles I was working from home and was lucky to see 1-3 hours a day. That drove me a bit crazy (lack of human contact), so I went into a higher up role that is office based. I'm now in a role where I'm in the office generally for about 5-6 hours a day, so more hours and more challenging work but working with a great team (it honestly rarely feels like work).

    • Any positions available?

  • Many years ago, I was transferred to another department where the manager didn't really know what to do with me, he felt that I was too senior to be doing the sort of work that he had available. They didn't really give me much to do and I didn't feel like going to work just to sit around so I stopped going. Only went to work for a few hours a day and only for a few days a week. After a year or two, they got rid of me.

Actually, I'm still doing not much now. But that's because I'm running my own business and I only need to do stuff if a client want it or if something goes wrong. I'm an IT person too.

On another note, I was outside in the park yesterday and there were about 4 manual labour types just sitting and chatting for all the time I was there, the only person doing anything was the lollypop lady telling people to take another route. This seems to be more common for these types of jobs, I've noticed.

  • Gigalo would be a great job for bluding and doing what you do best

    • haha thanks captobvious I'll keep the gigolo option in my back pocket if my degree doesn't work out.

  • Traffic Controller would be an awesome bludge job. All you need is a one day course in traffic management, and it qualifies you to work as a traffic controller (stop, slow lollypop sign).

From what I understand, they get around $50 / hour on a casual basis, plenty of work around. They just stand there and play on their phone all day.

    Looks cruisy :-)

The flip side is would you want to stand outside in 35c plus weather like today.
