  • Any one know how much power it uses? got an old 40inch plasma that my kid uses but its costing about $30 per month in power :/

Its a 24" led set… would use next to nothing.

A modern 65 inch plasma uses $50 per year so I think it's safe to say that any change you make will reduce your power bill significantly.

      • wow did not know they where that good.

        Thanks

  • One of these would be great as a basic streaming TV for a den, 2nd living area, or bedroom… Pair it up with a cheap Chromecast (it has 1 HDMI and 1 USB), and you're away for less than $150!

input voltage is 12v DC, so could possibly be used as a cheapie for the caravan!
(only 240v to 12v adapter supplied)

    • I bought a 12V / 240V 24 inch LCD from Kogan, the worst vertical viewing angle ever, any idea what this one is like?

  • For anyone looking to get this as a cheap PC monitor, note that it only supports 50hz (according to the JB-HIFI website).

    • +1

Nah they just say that because of our traditional power/transmission runs at 50Hz/Fields. Pretty sure they wouldn't spend money converting a 60Hz capable set to only support 25/50 fps.

  • OP, you have one? does it pick up new H264 HD channels (9HD & Horse Racing)?
    my 4yo Soniq does not

    • Sorry I don't know, I only ordered it last night.

  • If anyone has one of these, could they try running something through HDMI, flicking off the power point (not remote or TV buttons) then powering it back up? Pretty please? Would be a nice cheap monitor for a RetroPie MAME machine cabinet but needs to be able to power back up (not go into standby and stay there) and use the same input without any interaction… Or if it detects HDMI and brings itself out of standby, that would work too.

    • Would be a nice cheap monitor for a RetroPie MAME machine

Ewwwww, no it wouldn't. Retro games should be on CRT :-)

Have you considered the input lag that most cheap LCDs have, causing your gaming to be a fail?

Have you consider that you need IPS panel, so that the viewing angles are acceptable (especially when running in portrait mode)?

needs to be able to power back up

That's why it has a remote control.

      • I hear you, but CRT these days are impractical, don't usually have HDMI and the larger ones are so damn heavy! I never thought about the lag, that would suck. IPS would also be nice, but for $99, I thought this might have been a cheap and dirty way to kick off the cabinet build. You just saved me $99. Thanks llama :-)

  • hmm is this the cheapest 24" tv atm?

  • +1

I bought one of these and it arrived last week. Picture quality is alright, better than I expected at least. The sound is pretty poor, but there's headphone out or optical out for better audio choices.

I'd note that the position of the HDMI port makes it very difficult to attach an original Chromecast if that's your plan - I needed to use a different USB cable to squeeze it in and even then it's very tight.

Overall though, for $99 it'd be tough to do better.
