standard titles they discount every holiday sale.

  • +5

WHy do they never discount things people actually want?

Shin Megami Tensei IV is good, but it goes on sale every two seconds and the rest is just shovelware garbage usually.

    • Like xenoblade chronicals, kid icarus, donkey Kong country, Mario 3d land? Yeah why do they NEVER get discounted

      • They did in Christmas… Xenoblade had a pre-order offer, but it's only a couple months old.

      • +1

If you dont mind a physical one Xenoblade is $29 at Big W

        • No way. The new Wii U one?

        • Bargain if it is. Put 150 hours into it.

        • Wii version or 3ds?

        • +1

@mnermner: apologises for the confusion, yeah the 3DS model, I think the wii u one is $59 but not sure

        • @ruddiger8: Exactly what the Big W clerk told me when I bought it.

        • @cortex21: sweet, thanks for the tip off

    • +1

No need to discount if people will buy it anyway, this to entice the 'oh well, it's cheap, might as well' buyer into getting something.

    • +1

A bunch of those games are quite good, the word "shovelware" is overused in gaming, ironic given the copy paste nature of open world / shooters that fill the gaming market.

    • It's Nintendo's standard to not discount they're own games, they've been doing it for years.

      • +1

        Their, not they're

        • +2

You forgot a full stop at the end of your sentence.

        • @Trishool: He didn't write a sentence, just a fragment, as it didn't contain a verb.

        • @tomkun01:
It does contain a verb - they're = they are. Are is the plural version of the verb to be. :) sorry

        • +1

@Justtip: hmm you're right, but in this case the are is not acting as a verb. They're should be in quotes. But you're right

        • @Trishool:

Omitting a full stop is nowhere near as egregious as not knowing the difference between "their" and "they're".

Teslagrad is anything but garbage, if you're referring to this sale.

      • I got the retail version, your right, its great.

    • +1

I agree (except for the shovelware comment) - I wish Nintendo would put their games on sale more often. It is not a criticism of the games on sale, but the games that rarely, if ever, get a discount, e.g. Mario Kart, Smash Bros.

It's not like they need to have 50% off, 20-25% would be a good start.

      • +1

When Mario Kart launched, they did a buy it and get a Nintendo game as a digital DL "free". They allowed you to choose from alot of there games bigger games that were still on the expensive side…

I see what you mean, it would be nice, they do have some sales like that occasionally, but its over time, generally watching retail online sales sporadically is easier…

Some of the bigger retail Wii games went down in price, like The Twilight Princess and Mario Galaxy.

I think a bigger issue is "stock" levels at retail… Seems Nintendo (or stores in general) have some issues estimating how many retail copies are sufficient…

I noticed with alot of their games (and even with multi-platform ones) they end up close to or out stock across many regions. Was hard to find Tekken Tag Tournament 2 Wii U Edition.

Some retailers don't even stock certain games, which means you need to import from the UK, etc. Suprised Shovel Knight was easy to find at local stores.

        • +1

You're right about the stock issue - I'm debating whether to pre-order Twilight Princess or not as I expect the shops nearest me will get perhaps 3-5 copies. I think it is the stores themselves.

I guess the thing that annoys me is that retailers have occasionally discounted Nintendo games to around $64. I understand that they are probably loss-leading at that price but an odd eShop sale somewhere near that would be nice.

@ChiefAJ: Yeah, its sort of a 50/50. Personally, Im waiting to see what the price is at launch. Not that its that much or anything, Its cool that the bundle amiibo version has a new dungeon/additional challenges. I feel some retailers have added a bit more to the preorder price of this Amiibo version in PAL territories. In the U.S. some have it for the same price. I believe ozgameshop might have the price Amiibo-less version for below $60 but it doesn't include the Amiibo/new dungeon.

The original Wii version is like $36-37 dollars or less depending online, so not really sure which one to get yet.

It might be cheaper $ at launch…

I missed out on some games at retail due to waiting to long to get em, its complicated.

I kind of feel retailers did the pre-order price hike with Fatal Frame 5 (Project Zero 5), as it was the only retail version available. It did come with a book and other art pieces though, but its price dropped at launch, same with Amiibo Festival, got that for cheaper tho…

At least games are cheaper now, gaming was very expensive in the 90s - early 2000s.

    • I know! Been waiting for anything mario branded or even old snes games to go sale but they never do :(

    • Its ridiculous, even Pokémon games that are about 7 years old, literally, are still $50??!!
And the biggest sale I have seen any Pokémon game is about $40

    Thanks for posting this

  • any one with Retro City Rampage DX thoughts?

    • I think I'll get it

    • It's got cool music but it's not a very good game unfortunately

      • I owned the original 'street gangs' on nes. I assume its mostly the same. I loved it.

        • Whoops, got mixed up with 'River City Ransom'. Actually no i don't want to get this game

  • +1

if someone is reading this, could they please check if lego city undercover is discounted?

    • 3DS eStore version is still full-price. ($69.95)

      • hmm was after wiiu version, but its probally the same, thanks fellow human

        • Yeah actual connect story wise and different games, they continue on each other's story
I believe 3ds is the prequel and the wii u is the sequel

        • @cortex21: meant price, wise, but ok, thanks
