I just called to update my home address in Darwin. I've been a Woolworths car insurance customer for almost 2 years.
I've moved exactly 10.7km up the road (Whereis.com.au) and the policy has gone up $11 a month!
The guy fobbed me off on the phone when I asked why it went up.
He couldn't give me an explanation!

So, Indonesia, right? ;)
Haha
I moved from Palmerston 0830 to Virginia 0834
Not unusua - with differen postcodes.
not unusual - different post codes.
When you call up cancellations they would be able to offer a discount.. worth a go.
Or try coles insurance
The reason: the insurance company has determined that your new address is riskier, so there is a higher chance of having them to pay a claim.
My advice: as always, shop around to see if you're still getting the best deal. This applies to everyone when they get their renewal notice.
Yes, that's when I changed over to Woolworths. They were half the price of Tio. It was relatively new at the time. I got unlimited windscreen replacement and 10 day car hire for free. I noticed now they are both extras you have to pay extra for
Yep, I moved <100m down the road and it went down by about $10/month, so I wouldn't be surprised if it went the other way too. The risk analysis can be much finer than the postcode level, right down to the block.
u moved postcodes, different risks in different post codes. thats life.
go with another insurerI used to live just one block from suburb boundary (Kingsford 2032 and Randwick 2031). Comprehensive car insurance for my old Nissan back then was around 15% cheaper in one suburb than the other. Unfortunately I lived in the more expensive one. Yes the post code makes a big difference in premium even when the actual address might just be 50 metres apart.
if your postcode changed that's likely the answer.
I shifted to Woolworths car insurance yesterday and using code Wool20 got 20% off. Also got $100 Wish card. Possible also to cancel after 45 days and you get to keep the Wish card. Moving back and forth between Woolies and Coles might be a good idea as I think Coles currently have price beat on their car insurance.
It takes Woolworths ages to send out the WISH cards BTW. They say they will be dispatched after 45 days, but I waited 4 months and had to email them to receive mine.
insured the car on the 04/12/15, sold the car in the end of January, called them and cancelled the insurance, the polite lady on the phone offered to check if I still receive the gift card (wanted to transfer to another department), cause she wasn't sure about it, I decided don't spend time. I received a gift card on Friday, 12/02/2016. That means that those two months of insurance cost me only around $10! The end of story.
Also when you try to negotiate the insurance with them, if it's a renewal, they offer a $50 wish gift card for the hassle. It's definitely worth trying!Awesome, good result!
Coles car insurance now offers to beat any policy by $50 so that's where I may move to next :)@jenki:
Yes, but another reason why I choose woolworths, as you can pay monthly without increased amount (the same as yearly payment divided by 12), only a bad point if you need to cancel insurance they won't refund the amount paid for a current month. But the saved difference is definitely worth it!
I can see they are cheaper but how good is their insurance in terms of claims?
Is it headache or tension free?
Any experience?
Sorry, I haven't done a claim through them yet. The customer service side is great. Very helpful over the phone
I use Coles for home insurance and claimed a little while back (flood caused by dishwasher).
they were great to deal with, quick and claims done no troubles, new carpet, new cupboards, no running around for quotes.
We moved from Cairns to the Gold Coast to a Fort Knox complex, our Woolies car insurance went through the roof.
How does Woolies insurance compare with other main stream brands? It is apparently showing as one of the cheapest. Hope there's no caveat.
Did your postcode change?
