CSR Raw Sugar 2kg $1.75 (1/2 Price) @ Coles

820

Just found this at coles, a pretty sweet deal considering that the 1kg version is selling for $2.97. Not to mention that its even cheaper than coles homebrand and woolwroths homebrand, which are selling for $2.1 and $2.18 respectively.

Edit: Already mentioned in trent's weekly catalogue deal

In Straylia, first you get the sugar. Then you get the power. Then you get the Women.

Nice price, but can people taste the difference between CSR and home brands/Aldi's?

    • What's price of aldi raw sugar

      • i think 1.09 a kilo

      • +1

        The price is chronic diabetes.

    • There is a taste difference ask jv.

      • +2

Raw sugar has slight molasses undertones to the taste.

Must… protect… sugar. Thieves everywhere. The strong must protect the sweet… the sweet…

Personal experience: the no name stuff had bits in it. Sounds like a simple thing to fix.
For me: I use so little, I'd rather just by these deals once a year.

    • It's not about taste it's about the shopping experience and prestige that comes with purchasing a premium brand.

Like owning a Rolex or real iPhone vs an android look alike

Or a csr copy …will these sell out and be sent to China like baby formulae at this price ?

    • I can't speak for Aldi as it's likely imported, but all the 'made in Australia' brands whether they're CSR, Homebrand or whatever are identical except for price and packaging. I visited a sugar mill in high school and the mills produce and package the sugar for the brands, they just switch the packets.

Some mills may produce a variance from other mills, but for all intents and purposes there's no reason to buy anything but the cheapest.

  • Sugar… RAW

  • Sweeeeet!

Dentists 1: What kind of sweet do you like ?
    Dentists 2: ROAR ….. sugar

    Sweet deal !!

  • Is this an healthier option compared to normal sugar?

    • -2

      Absolutely not!

    • Yes, considerably.
Google: white death, and what (WHYYY?!) it takes to make sugar white.

      • -2

"Raw sugar" often is white sugar with added colourants like molasses. This is just part of the economies of production. To be sure check with the manufacturer.

        • +2

Pretty misleading and bad explanation. Sugar extracted from sugarcane have a brown colour naturally hence the name RAW sugar. They are then refine to make white sugar(through a bleaching process using sulfur dioxide).

@highdealer: In a fully transparent world BBQ chips would always be made on a BBQ. And raw sugar would always be raw.

As I said, check with the manufacturer if you want to be sure.

        • @thevofa: Not sure if trolling at this point?

The BBQ in BBQ chip is specifically refer to the BBQ flavour same as BBQ sauce.

"Raw sugar" often is white sugar with added colourants like molasses. This is just part of the economies of production.

Not sure which manufacturer would be dumb enough to refine raw sugar into white sugar, then turn white sugar into RAW sugar again by adding molasses to it. Yeah, that seem much more economical than just selling raw sugar as raw sugar in the first place.

    • That is like asking if [insert name of expensive bottled water] is a healthier option compared to tap water.

The answer to that is "no, they are both water"

The answer to your question is "no, they are both sugar".

"Just found this at Coles, a pretty sweet deal…"

    Haw-haw, you had me.

Now I just need to see if people don't mind having some raw sugar in their teas instead.

    • Raw sugar is for coffee :-p

  • Bought 2 of them. And no, I have no idea of what I am going to do with them (I add honey to my coffee and tea. Yeah, I know. I am that weird guy).

    • I'll add honey, maple syrup, molasses, whatever's looting around. But only to coffee. No sugar in tea, which is what I drink most of the time anyway

I did some research! Definitely the cheapest way to get diabetes out there. 10/10 would bake a large tray of muffins and consume in one go.

That sugar movie turned me off a lot of sugar, not that I had a high intake to start with, but it's no surprise so many people are obese…

    • I was wondering why the dolmio pasta sauce tasted better than when I made it …..sugar….reduces the dependence on ripe tomatoes
