What's the benefit of this over the free version? Only that this is ad-free?
How does this compare to WorldMate for pro features which is only $10 per year whilst this is asking $50?

Surveys are few and far between these days, must spend my credits wisely!

    • What's the benefit of this over the free version? Only that this is ad-free?

Pretty much. Tripit is great, but Pro is not worth it for me. Not sure of the differences between WorldMate and Tripit, but it seems Tripit is still the most used/popular planning tool.

I tried Tripit and Worldmate apps (free versions) on a US trip to compare.
I ended up going with Tripit for the long term simply because Worldmate couldn't update intuitively.
Example: Flying to USA and then adding in a new domestic flight. On Tripit, it seamlessly just added it to my itinerary. On Worldmate it made it two separate trips (even though the domestic flight dates were within the existing trip). Try as I might on Worldmate, I couldn't get the app to merge the trips into one. Useless.
I've been told that the pay version of Tripit is a bit too intrusive - starts prying into your contacts and diary etc.

    • I tried TripIT and deleted it, didn't work as well as I hoped, a lot of the automation didn't seem to work for me, so it wasn't worthwhile to have half a solution. Never tried WorldMate though, so can't compare.

I used this for a month long trip with patchy Internet. Well worth it.
Syncs across devices, shared overview with parents so they knew where we were, had all the info we needed.
Takes a while to setup but worth the effort to not have to worry about info on trip.

yeh Worldmate didn't pick up all my itineraries. TripIt always does.

ads are annoying, removing them well worth the 20 cents

  • i loved tripit but they dont allow syncing through to flightrack 5 = deal breaker :(

I forwarded 2 trips to this app and it came up with one trip with the title of one of my trips and the details of the other, so pretty much useless for me straight away.

Google Inbox has a "Trips' section which looks better and has worked better for me.

    • This was pretty much exactly my experience with TripIt, I also reverted to just using Google Inbox.

  • Anyone got an error trying to pay for this with their Telstra credit ?

What about Kayak? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kayak.andr… Free and seems to do the same thing.

  • is that $0.20 AUD? I'm seeing $0.20 but when I click buy it says $0.99USD

  • Great app.
Used the free version to organise a track my trip to Europe.
Best feature is the ability to forward a hotel/flight confirmation email to an email address and it will populate your app with the right information for you.

Its a good app, have used the site since before smartphones, but I dont think this even entitles you to the true pro features, the pro features for the site and app are $49 a year.

  • Does this handle tour bookings, or attraction visits? How about Airbnb bookings?

    • It handles some tour and attraction tickets automatically. Others you need to manually add. Definitely does Airbnb.

    Tripcase is a great alternative.

    • Agree totally! Tripcase has features which other apps only have in their pro versions, like flight delays and gate change information.

    • Tripcase has weather info which is helpful.

Free with literally one survey on Google Opinion Rewards, that I get just by going to Woolies/Maccas. Love it!

Forward my what??!?? Are people mad? Your confirmation emails aren't meant to be shared with 3rd parties and often act as proof of purchase. Some will even have electronic ticketing information. It's bad enough entering your travel itinerary so that every crock and hacker can know where you'll be and when or even if your house is unattended. But now people are quite happy to forward the confirmation details too? Have people gone mad this decade?

    • +1

That's exactly what I came here to say. Is bad enough that Google data mines my emails, but at least they have built up a good deal of trust over the years. There's no way im forwarding confirmation emails to a 3rd party.

    • email is TLS encrypted and securely transferred to tripit, and its unlikely someone is going to hack into tripit for the reason to figure out if your house is unattended, there is lower hanging fruit for crooks by looking for unprotected facebook profiles.

Secondly, what exactly can someone do if they know your hotel or flight bookings?

Tripit are basically in it to very valuable data on how much people are paying for hotel rooms and flights, and I get a nice collated list of my upcoming hotel and travel stays. win win as far as I'm concerned.

      • Are you nuts? Nice little database of people in the area to pin a crime on. Nice idea of people's income and payment data. (Sure most sites hide all bar a few characters of a credit card number but there's always that odd site that doesn't do things properly). You clearly aren't a hacker. Neither am I but I am a coder, and we have to do our best to think of how a hacker can exploit our code to prevent the exploit. If your info is on a site like this and the site is hacked you're basically stuffed!

        • Not nuts, just able to assess risk, perhaps even thinking like a hacker.

I use a dedicated email only for travel email to limit exposure if tripit is compromised.

You do realize any vendor has your credit card billing address - much easier to figure out your income from that.

No web sites send card information as it's a blatant PCI violation - they keep their violations behind the scenes.

        • @oznik:

You think blatant PCI violations never happen and have never happened in the past? I guess your risk assessment is that I either imagined or made that up. A dedicated email address isn't going to help you much if every travel plan you ever made and your credit card details for the last several years is linked to it. But you know what, assess risk any way you like. It's your mess to deal with when it goes wrong. People are after all dumb enough to join Ashley Madison and then moan about it when they're exposed.

        • @syousef: Tripit shows booking and travel details, not credit card info, thats never been shown on an air ticket or hotel booking. Of-course if you are on the run from Police, or in witness protection it would be wise to not use something like this but the average person if they did get hacked, why someone would bother is beyond me. It would only wreak havoc on their travel plans, you could cancel all the bookings if you were a hacker with lots of time on your hands.

          @drspy00:

Again showing you're not in the hacker mentality? Why would someone bother?
          - Blackmail
          - Identity fraud (financial, or traveling using your ticket)
          - Ego and sadistic amusement (Some people like torchering others)

It really doesn't take much imagination to see why someone would do it.

  • Ive been using it for many overseas trips for years, at first I was wondering it was secure and it would be unfortunate if someone was able to log in but it hasn't happened yet.
