  • What's the life expectancy of the cell and how much does that cost to replace?

    • life expectancy of the cell is around 5 years, cost to replace is around $350 (have in mind a lot of retailers sell the lm3 40 over $1000+).

  • I own an LM3 (smaller model) … it's pretty reliable and never had any issues in 8 years. Pretty good price.

Make sure you have it installed undercover or at least protect the electronics panel from sun and rain … the plastic cover easily breaks down and lets then water in. (The electronics are easy to replace for around $100 to $150 and you get a replacement panel cover for $25. When you protect the device ou avoid these costs … it's built to fail in my opinion. Otherwise a very good unit. For that price … gets a positive vote from me. Cleaning the salt cell is reasonable easy and can be done by yourself.

One question: Would the salt cell fit in other models … such as the LM3 24 or 30 ???

    • +1

the lm3 40 cell will fit into any of the other lm3 chlorinators (the cell housing is the exact same size, no pluming is required for the change).

  • Does it plug into a power point and therefore suitable for installation by a handyman or does it need to be wired up by an electrician?

    • I purchased this recently and installed it myself. I am far from a handyman and managed to install the new cell (needed to buy high pressure pvc pipe, joiners and glue from bunnings) and mount the panel on a brick wall which plugged into a power point.

    • it plugs to the power point, and it is designed to be a DIY installation. Electrician is not required.

  • good Chlorinator. it runs for few years and never has any issue.

  • How do people usually install it? Do you DIY or get a plumber / pool person out?
    Thanks.

    • It is quite easy to install, it is meant to be DYI. If you are a handy person, it should be ok. Otherwise you can get any plumber or pool person to install it (it would be a 15 minutes job for them).

  • What is the difference between the Zodiac LM3-40 and Zodiac LM Express 40 that some other sites are selling?
Not sure if the express is just a rebadged LM2, although they claim it is newer than LM3.

  • By having a look at the "LM Express 40" one can see that they probably use the LM2 square cell which was prone to breakages and leakages usually around the terminals caused by the cell housing square shape and its materials quality.

LM2 cell problems were fixed with the introduction of the LM3 cell, which uses higher quality materials for the casing and the cell plates as well.
