Nexus phone won't connect to home wifi

Hope this is the right forum for this

I've recently moved house and ISP
using the same PC, wireless laptop, smart TV, iPad and nexus phone

Just can't get the nexus phone to connect to my home WiFi

had to change IP address and DNS on iPad and smart TV, which made them happily accept the change
did the same on nexus, it now connects to wifi but I have no internet access

rebooted modem,
changed IP setting to static and manually entered IP and DNS
updated firmware

still no joy
factory reset phone but the problem persists :(

went to the mall, and phone cheerfully connects to mall WiFi

but it refuses to connect to my home WiFi

Any android whisperers who can possibly help please?

  • Have you checked the log on your router? And what brand is your router?

Doesn't sound like an Android issue at all, it sounds like you've turned off DHCP on your modem.
You either need to set a static IP for your phone (then it's likely to not work on other WiFi networks) or turn DHCP back on.

  • Agree it is not an android problem as phone can connect to a public wifi

    Delved into the modem settings
    DHCP was on
was playing around, saw that something called WMM was disabled
    turned it on
    and now it works :)

    thanks!!!

btw I have no idea what DCHP or WMM stands for :)

DHCP - Dynamic Host Control Protocol I think.. allows your router to assign an IP address to devices when they connect to the network
WMM - Wireless Multimedia - I don't really know what this does… sounds like a Quality of Service type setting to prioritise streaming media over other traffic.

I was right! Mark this day in history! I should tell my wife!

  • if you have IPv6 on the LAN side see if turning it off will help
