.> So basically the majority of people have to pay an extra $6 as they don't have a Mastercard Debit card, and this is only for hand luggage as well (any suitcases I assume would be extra). Makes it a bit less appealing. :(

It still seems good regardless (For comparison's sake, I just did a very brief check with Jetstar and from Brisbane to Melbourne return it's $190 versus here where it would be $152 for the same return trip).

Thanks for letting us know though. :) Will have to check with the missus if she wants to book any flights in a short amount of time!

    • I think Westpac and CBA both have free mastercard debit cards for their customers, find out if your own bank offers this :)

      • you can open commsec cash account, they give you free debit mastercard

  • -1

One of the reason for booking via credit card is the free limited travel insurance and money back if the the airline goes bust (ah Ansett!). $6 for a $25 fare is ripoff!

    • -1

Unfortunately Commonwealth Gold has a $900 spend limit before you get Travel Insurance.

    • thats international travel insurance mate, not for domestic

      • -1

mod Zhenjie indicates that DragonRabit read the terms and conditions incorrectly

      • my comment is responding to skinny comment. and we are talking about domestic flight. so far, i never known any gold / platinum credit card that offering free travel insurance for domestic travel.

  • Are the melbourne flights (to and from) avalon or tullarmarine?

    • Tiger use Tullarmarine

      • not the usual Tullarmarine we all go to, it is NEXT to Tullarmarine domestic airport(where you have to walk a small distance).

  • Cheapest Adelaide to Melbourne @ Mon 05 Apr 10 & Tue 06 Apr 10 is $98 and it's early morning :(
Price increase like a rocket for these 2 days, $98-$334 using webjet.

  • can anyone who has actually flown with tiger tell me about their experience?? … this http://flighthacker.com/2009/09/29/tiger-airways-is-it-the-r… makes it sound like a most unpleasant experience. Definitely better to pay the extra dollars if you can afford it.

    • +1

Definitely better to pay the extra dollars if you can afford it.

      +1 to this

My experience was so bad now I never flight with them again.
Now I use other 3 airlines + Jetstar price beat if possible.

    • I don't like their services either. you could NEVER expect tiger to be the same just like every flight companies that we are used to.

      1. they have VERY STRICT policy about check-in time, you missed it by 1min? buy another ticket!
      2. pretty sure you can't check-in early if you're there too early(says 3 hours)!
      3. Melbourne domestic airport(TIGER are separate from Jetstar/VirginBlue/Qantas) facilities are very very bad, only 1 toilet available and if it was in service you would have to wait until you get on plane or walk 20-25 min(return) to the next proper(where Jetstar/VirginBlue/Qastas are) airport.
      4. I remember seeing one report saying 3-4 aussie girls was never informed that their TIGER flight was canceled(it was canceled 2 weeks ago), left them no return ticket(late nite) & sleep at the airport + missed their connecting international flight. all due to poor management!

in my opinion, they are Singapore base company, which is same as Singtel/Optus, if you know Optus, you know how bad their service are, and how rip off they are!

I personally would pay the extra to get a proper service.

      • I could only say: you get what you paid for!

but I would pay just a little extra
        eg. MEL-SYD $30(TIGER) & MEL-SYD $39(Jetstar)

        • Is the Mel to Syd from Tullamarine though?

    • I've flown about 10 times with them, all experiences were generally better than Jetstar. The flights I have flown (Ad-Hb,Ad-Mel,Mel-Hb) have always been on time, the service has been great, and the planes were clean. As long as you get there an hour before your flight, and double check the flight hasn't been cancelled beforehand (never happened to me), and are OK with not eating a main meal on the plane, they should be fine.

  • i just love this competition. keep the fare lowwwww

I have flown Tiger twice and have had no problems at all. Yes it is very basic, but you get what you pay for.

My advice is show up to the airport early for Tiger flight (especially if you are tall). Check in as soon as you can and ask for an emergency row seat, this way you get extra leg room. They normally charge extra for these seats but these seats have to be filled for safety reasons so if you check in early you can get them for no extra cost. You do have to be able to operate the emergency door in an emergency so if you are overweight, disabled or vertically challenged you wont be given an emergency row seat.

    • Its not about you, its about them. They delay, cancel, left you in the dark, etc…

      • +7

I have flown with all the domestic airlines (unfortunately work chooses flights for me) and I have to say that Qantas has been the worst for delays. I have not had any problems with Tiger yet. When I can get a MEL - PER fare for less than a third of the usual cost I will take the risk. I think Tiger are good for a quick weekend away/casual visit, not if you need to connect to an international flight or attend an event. Heaps of bogans use Tiger to go to weddings/important events and do not leave a buffer between the flight and the event. They also show up at the airport when the flight is boarding and then miss the flight and get angry like its the airlines fault. I see this every time I am at the airport

The worst airline for I have experienced for delays, cancellations, rude service etc is Aerolineas Argentinas, never fly with them… ever.

        • +1

"Heaps of bogans use Tiger" - Confirmed.
"get angry like its the airlines fault" - Absolutely.

        • how about LAN mate? i am taking this airline next week.

          • @dragonrabit: LAN are much better and you can earn Qantas points because they are part of the One World Alliance.

      • +2

So does the other company's virgin did it to me last week.
I sorta refuse to fly jetstar they have screwed me around the most over the years. Never had a Qantas flight on time tiger have been good to me a few delays but when ur flight is heaps cheaper its perfect I expect the worse for the money I pay maybe thats why I'm happy after flying with them

        • yeah, if you are worry with tiger delay, you might need add $9 extra for their insurance

  • +1

My flight fr Adelaide to Melbourne was delayed by 7 hours. Was given a $5 meal voucher which only can be used at Cibo. I don't know you could buy a $5 meal from Cibo when a latte is already $4. They should call it drinks voucher to minimise disappointment.

I was ok with the delay but i reli hate when they slowly delayed us. Started with 30 mins, then 1 hr then 2 hrs then 3.5 hrs.

Tiger is a disgrace to Singapore Air. Expected better service considering its a Singapore Airlines subsidiary.

I rather pay more for Virgin next time. Never ever Tiger again.

    I give u a + for the bargain

    Cheers

  • Nice. Just booked for Sunshine COast

    tiger sucks

Perfect example of the type of negative votes that should be removed….and the voter BANNED.

  • Pay Peanuts…Get Monkeys !!!!!!

Man you have short memories….Remember the T.V series Airlines? Customer satisfaction was appalling.

I'd rather travel Virgin Blue and pay that little bit extra, than risk not getting there with Snappy Tom Airlines.

I was on a Virgin flight to Sydney yesterday and the Captain helped an elderly lady into a wheelchair and pushed her up to the gate. Would a QANTAS Pilot do this??? Doubt it…..It's beyond them. Asking a QANTAS hostie (battle axe) for help is almost as bad as committing a cardinal sin….. Service???? what does that mean??

If Greyhound is your next choice, grab this BARGAIN with open arms but don't bet on gettting to your destination.

That tv show show how many dumbarses there are in Australia. I have never had a problem with tiger been really good better then the others when u think of the price I pay. Last week I had to drop my mate off at the Airport was a hour drive to catch a virgin flight from Perth to melb and they cancelled it without telling us and had to catch a flight next day at 6pm which was apparently the next advaliable direct flight. So cancelations happen with any carrier I put tiger over jetstar had so much trouble with them over the years but maybe I have been lucky with tiger

  • Tiger is the worst airline I ever travelled with.. recommend paying the little extra to avoid disappointment..

  • +2

Absolute bargain . Without a doubt not the best airline but easily the cheapest and your paying 2 -> 10 times as much for better "service" . If you expect to be treated like a superstar you will be dissapointed . On the other hand you can appreciate the old addage you get what you pay for then you will be happy .

  • +2

Forgot to say great bargain To fly from Perth to Melb for $160 return is unbelievable. Where it cost more than that to fly one way with other carriers. Awesome!!!

  • Site is down

  • No tiger airlines for me. The potential stress and risks outweighs the savings.

    1) Its a budget airline, it will be just like taking a bus, and I seriously don't trust my life in the hands of these people treating air travel like bus travels.

    2) I don't believe in rewarding appalling (inflexible) service with my business.

That said, Tiger airlines is a budget airlines, for any budget airlines (the likes of jetstar, asia airways, virgin blue), the 'norm' price for interstates is between $29-$70 barring any specials.

It is not really a bargain in the 'budget world', but it is a bargain if you are looking at a qantas fare… but one should compare apples to apples.

    Just my 2 cents.

  • +2

    OMG TIGER IS FINE okay…

    They are exceptionally good.

I've had no problems so far. It's a decent price.

  • +3

I paid $94 return for a MEL-Bris flight and Virgin wanted $300 and Qantas wanted $280. Go Figure.

Dont like it, use the damn price beat. What pisses me off is when I use the price beat and Jetstar stuffs up on me while I watch the Tiger A320 takeoff ontime!

  • +2

Woo! 9 return flights to Gold Coast from Melbourne booked with Tiger b/c of this post!! I love Tiger Airways, no matter what anyone says.

  • +1

i love tiger airways too !

  • Awesome~ On my way to Melb! Love the bargains i always get. =)

  • I don't have a problem with them, flown Perth - Singapore return no probs a few times

  • I really love it when people complain about Tiger's service when you're paying peanuts for a flight. I pay more for my cab fare than some flights that's available.
