Hi all,
Just wondering if the private health insurance rebate only applies if you have (minimum) Hospital cover? OR does it also apply, even if you only have Extras cover?
I keep reading seemingly conflicting things online about this, eg
* Rebate FAQs says "have a complying health insurance product (CHIP) that provides hospital treatment, general treatment (also known as ancillary or extras) cover or both". I don't know how to interpret this - hospital treatment OR general (extras) OR both? Or are they saying… hospital AND extras, OR both? (which is the same as saying.. Hospital AND extras").
- ATO "Eligibility: … complying health insurance policy: Defined as a policy which… provides hospital or general (also known as extras) cover or combined hospital and general cover"
So, it sounds like it's hospital OR extras, or both.
However Medibank insists it's only for hospital cover.
Thoughts?
PS I understand "lifetime health cover loading" is different, and that's related to hospital cover…
Private Health Insurance Rebate FAQ:
Can I claim the rebate if I only have private health insurance general treatment cover (also known as ancillary or extras)?
Yes. You will receive a rebate unless you earn more than the Tier 3 threshold (see table above).
