  • Serious Firmware Bug at the moment. Don't update to 3.57 as it has an awful battery loss bug which will completely drain your battery in sleep mode in less then 8 hours. Also Theres a bug in the firmware which won't allow you to sign in to PSN. So if you wipe your device or buy a new one and try to sign in you won't be able to since to sign in you need to be on the current firmware. Sony hasn't really given much of a response about this bug yet.

    • +1

Yeah so much for the 'stability' the update was to add. Thanks for starting the thread!

      • No worries, Thanks for the suggestion.
        Also Stability Intensifies
I'm thoroughly convinced any update that has the word Stability in it is just code for "Patching exploits that have been found to run homebrew ect".
Unfortunately patching those things can make problems.
Not to mention now that it's unsafe to update I can't use cross save or backup my save files to pc or do daily challenges in games, swap memory cards on different firmware devices and many other things.
I understand they want to lock it down a fair bit to avoid the whole psp piracy problem again but still I think they've gone a bit far when I can't cross save/daily challenges between games without being current.

    • I'm on 3.57 with my 2nd Gen Vita and not having any of the issues people are saying. Ive had it in and out of sleep for 3 days now on the one battery life. Seems fine to me. Wondering if its only affecting those with the OLED screens?

      • The bug didn't seem to hit every vita/vita TV. Not sure what made it active on each persons console as it seemed to be pretty random.

      • Doesn't seem to be specific to OLED as my fat is running fine. Weird issue this one as it appears to be quite random.

    • The PSN issue was fixed already. I've never had the battery drain but apparently rebuilding the database will fix it if you have.

  • Would love to see good prices on the console…sadly I guess due to lack of competition/aussie dollar, vitas aren't that great a price.

    • Agreed, I have a Playstation TV and would like to eventually add a vita to my collection too…

    • Yeah prices on the vita 2000 haven't been good since 1-2 years ago when JB did a sale for the 2000 at $200 with your choice of 3 games. I don't remember what options there were but I got Freedom wars with mine. Then I used the Xmas buy a $50 gift card and get a 20% off up to $20 voucher bringing the whole thing to $180. I don't ever remember it going lower than that and I haven't seen JB bring it back to $200 since.

    • Yeah price still isn't great however I remember paying an eye watering price for mine when it first came out. As with most of these kinds of purchases, it perhaps makes sense to make them during overseas trips (and as a bonus you get to annoy Gerry Harvey in the process!). I'm going to buy a pile of games in Japan in April, so many great second hand stores to scour for decwnt prices.

      • I hear good things about Bookoff if you want second hand games at good prices.

        • Yeah I used to live in Tokyo and frequented Book Off quite a lot. The Trader stores around Akiba can also have some really good deals. There's also a Hard Off for hardware which apart from having a quite hilarious name isn't quite as common in terms of stores.

  • Been looking for good deals, but only one I can find is the JB Hifi offer: https://www.jbhifi.com.au/features/games/Bundles/ps-vita-hot… which isn't good but better then nothing I suppose. Lots of "cheap" second hand PS Vitas on eBay going for ~$100AU.

Also, I find the amount of good western games limited although I think there are enough to keep the Vita going. I mean.. I like some JRPGs but after 1 or 2 I'm quite done with them for a while.

  • So what's everyone got in their Vita this weekend? I'm trying out New Little King's Story to break up a lengthy stint of visual novels!

    • +1

Currently playing Crypt of the Necrodancer (Digital only) and in between that Trails of Cold steel which is really good. Reminds me of a mix between Persona 3 and Valkyria Chronicles 2 (because setting). Voice acting is surprisingly good too.
If you have a ps4 and want to try out crypt of the necrodancer you get download a demo for it on the Japanese PSN. (youtube 60 second Japanese PSN account). I dropped fallout 4 to play that demo lol.

      • Sounds like my sort of game. Will have to add to my buy list.

Speaking of the buy list, I'm trying to find the Hyperdimension games for a sane price on Vita and it feels quite futile. They're ~70% off on Steam and I may soon have to admit defeat and just buy them there. I prefer handheld gaming though, but can't justify paying so much more particuarly given for just 10 bucks I could play Re;Birth 1 in much higher resolution.

        • Same all those titles that get English releases in USA and EU but don't over here are hard to come by at acceptable prices let alone the NA LE only releases. I still don't understand why Australia got a release of Neptunia PP but not any of the arguably better games in the series.
My only hope is a drastic price drops on amazon to make it reasonable or hoping it shows up on ebay at a decent price in buy it now format.

Looks like EB has preorders up for two more Vita games Stranger of sword City and Grand Kingdom.
Still hoping Odin Sphere gets a physical release over here on ps4 and vita but no news on that yet.

        • @Scaregdearimasu: I'm actually surprised that Eb are still selling new Vita releases, as I was in the Chadstone (Vic) store a few weeks back and the shop assistant at the time was saying they just want to sell out all Vita game stock and bring in no more. Maybe it was just that particular person's opinion, but I do get a sense that the Vita's retail days are numbered in Aus, which is sad since it's an utterly brilliant console.

Regarding Aus releases, I'm surprised we've had so much to be honest, as the incredibly low sales volume in this region must be hard to justify going through the ratings boards, making up the region specific packaging tweaks, and setting up the distribution channel agreements and whatnot. Thankfully UK is a bigger market and I will aim to continue to buy titles there. Due to regions I have lived in, I have Aus, UK and Japan PSN accounts but thanks to the clumsy card shuffling process, only want to use the Aus one. Since DLC works fine with EU releases and Aus PSN that helps a lot, and I only grab US releases for titles that don't have DLC nor any online component to them.

    • Might continue through Persona DAN later, haven't played much of it yet but what I have has been great.

      • That was one of few releases I bought day 1. I throughly enjoyed it, but then again I am a sucker for anything persona, particular 4. No other game has built such strong characters in my mind. Nearly makes you feel you know them personally :)

        • I've said many times that the day I finished P4G it felt like some friends had gone away.

      • How are you finding story mode for Person DAN? Honestly struggling trying to get through the story. Much more fun just playing it on free dance mode.

  • +1

Some pretty decent prices in store at EB currently. Arcana hearts for $23, and Dungeon Travelers 2 for $28 here in Westfield Southland in Vic. I'm more interested in the latter game but sadly bought too many lately and can't justify an extension of an already massive backlog (~60 physical titles).

For Vita though, I have this bad feeling of "never to be repeated again" with these games! As in either very hard to find at that price, or if at all. That's why my backlog is so huge - purchases for stuff that rarely pops up in retails so I have to snap them up (I'm a physical title collector).

    • Dungeon Travelers 2 is supposed to be a great FPDC. Same gotta snap them up while you can. My local JB only got one copy of Trails of cold steel so that and my gift cards from presents are the only reason I got it so early. I don't even think My EB got a copy.
Funnily enough when I wanted to get Demon Gaze it was way past being available new and the only place I could get it was from JB hifi used and there was only one store in the whole of Australia that had a copy. Ebay had new copies but not Australian stock and way overpriced.
Anyway point is if you get your JB Game staff to check used stock/new inventory they can put in a request to move stock to your store for free. This is of course up to the store that has the stock and if they're willing too but I've never been denied.
Also isn't the amount of Dungeon crawling games gotten really large recently even on the 3ds and pc just tons of them. Wonder why the genre took off so much.

      • Yeah was sooo close to pulling the trigger on DT2. Might check the city stores during the week and if it's still in stock there, I might take the hint and buy it :)

One game I have regret for not buying when I saw it twice at $23 during EB's xmas sale is Dragon's Crown. Doubt I will be seeing that one again at that price.

Kind of painful that the trigger price for a 'bargain' these days seems to be around $30. In reality, game prices haven't actually gone up in decades, we've just been conditioned that handheld game = cheaper price, but the truth of the matter is a lot of these Vita games have production values of full sized console games.

Agree about ebay, it's become a cesspool of rip off artists praying on our misforune to be stranded on this island with minimal retail competition…

        • +1

          Oh about dragons crown though.
My JB hifi had a lot of copies left awhile back.
The ps3 version and the vita version were left sitting with multiples on the shelf at $20 for months. I was waiting to see if they'd drop any further but eventually asked the games staff if they could do anything since they'd been sitting there. I ended up getting my vita copy for $17. Probably could of gone lower tbh as he said there was no money left in it whatever that means.

Anyway this was only 6-7 months ago I bet theres at least one copy new sitting on the shelf you could get moved from another JB hifi to your local jb hifi for free. Although it can take quite a while. Moving Danganronpa 1 took them 2 weeks for some reason.

I think some staff don't care for it since they have to call up the stores that allegedly have stock and sit on hold waiting for game staff to pickup or check physically. So what I do is I find out which stores have stock of it. (call any jb hifi and ask for them to see if theres any stock for this game anywhere and then write down the locations.)
Then call them up and tell them your trying to find some stock of a game to get it moved to your store.
Get them to check if they have it and condition.
Ask them if they'd be ok with moving that stock to another store and if they need to you call your local to set up a request. Sometimes the store that had it would do everything for me. They just needed a name and phone number if I remember correctly. Then your local store would call you and confirm. If they want you to set up the request then you need to call your store or go to it and explain that "this store" has a game set aside for you and a request for transfer needs to be put in from this store. Anyway it's been 6 months since I've done it so I think thats how it works anyway.

It's a bit of work making a bunch of phone calls to hunt down a copy but it's useful for some hard to find games.

        • +1

@Scaregdearimasu: Thanks for that info, you are a wealth of information! I'm still thinking about DT2 now. As a dungeon crawler, it seemed competent but the amount of over the top fan service was pretty ridiculous in the demo and turns me off a bit, as it seems quite juvenile to me. Maybe Mind Zero might scratch the dungeon crawler itch in a more mature fashion, however it's damn near impossible to find due to it's non-Aus distribution (as far as I can tell). Or I can buy a used 3DS and play Persona Q :)

        • @w8: No worries hope the info helps you and others!

Yeah DT2 does have a large amount of fan service if it's not your thing.
Mind Zero allegedly wasn't amazing but amazon did put the price down crazy low a while ago so maybe it'll go that low again. MZ went down to $15.97 Dengeki Bunko FC went down to $15.10 and Hyperdevotion Noire went down to $11.20 USD. All those are with out shipping though. Hmm I thought I posted MZ and Dengeki bunko here though but it looks like I only posted the Noire one though.
I'll have to post these more often.

3DS has a lot of great JRPG's too.
Bravely Default, Etrian Odyssey series, Devil Survivor 1 & 2 are both great and even Bravely Default 2 soon not to mention all the great first party Nintendo IP's.

Conception II: Children of the Seven Stars - PlayStation Vita
is at an ok price on Amazon. Comes out to 29.79 AUD delivered.
Didn't get a physical release in Australia but theres a demo on PSN so check to see if you like it or not as it might be too fan servicy. Art style is cool though.

    http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GOOSTJ0

    • Nice one. Have been curious about this one for some time.

And funny how things go… I just saw Lost Dimension in Melbourne CBD for something like $23 after looking there almost daily. This happen right after I bought it new. Still happy with the $28 new price though.

It's quite fun checking the Eb stores, as occassionally some great stuff randomly shows up. Takes a lot of waiting to eventually strike gold, though.

      • Conception II didn't really get great reviews. I haven't played more then the demo but the art is nice in it.

Agreed more often than not searching EB's doesn't get me anything but it is fun and you get to see all the weird gaming merch they sell too which is neat. Zelda Monopoly, Zelda Boggle/Yahtzee something lol. Hmm Yahtzee is in my browser dictionary. Why is that in the dictionary? lol.

Best thing I've found super cheap at EB was a copy of Touch my katamari like 1-1.5 years ago and it was a new copy for $8. Oh and a Zelda Guide book for $1. When EB clearances, they clearance quite well but theres almost no stock when things get super low.

        • +2

My copy of Conception II just arrived, and to my surprise it was a limited edition in special box with audio cd included. Not bad.

        • @w8: Nice! When I ordered mine last year from amazon it was just the normal edition. Also 2-3 days after it got posted from amazon then I found the Limited edition one you got on ebay for $20 used in poor condition. The box was all crumpled but I was ok with it at that price.

  • Australia Post strikes again. Not been my week. I ordered Lost Dimension at eb games store for $28 new for home delivery. Subsequently see $23 used almost the day after ordering (despite checking multiple stores for months). Then Aus post tracking shows it's being returned to sender/address unknown! Hurrah. This game hates me. Subsequently confirmed with EB that my address on the order was correct, and also Aus post confirmed that the game is being returned despite the address being correct. Crazy. EB did say they will call me to arrange re-sending once returned, I just hope Aus post gets no payment out of that screw up.

May have to just buy another game just to console myself in the meantime…

    • ah man that sucks. I've only ever needed to use it once. The other Time I went to use it the had stock of the game I wanted in the back which wasn't on display which was really weird.
You could try your luck and buy the used one and then just get them to cancel the other one.
I wonder what you did to upset Australia post lol.

Looks like Trillion got a release date for USA and EU.
Wonder if it'll get a physical release here. It's made by the people who used to make disgaea then broke off and made their own thing.

Also hoping Odin Sphere gets a physical here.
      Anything your hoping for?
I could probably list a ton more lol.

      • Yeah, it's all kind of funny except for Aus Post screwing up! Well I checked the store today and Lost Dimension has been picked up. It lasted two days which is longer than I expected, as it's quite rare to even see that in store at full price, at least in the stores I have checked. I think that EB Home Direct service is really useful and I won't let this put me off using it again, as they did nothing wrong at all.

I'll wait for the call from EB to have it re-sent. I'm already starting to dislike this game now. I have a very bad history with it, so if they say I need to pay for the re-send or something like that I might just cancel it :) My history started with this game when Gamesmen had it for ~32 on ebay in early December, and I had it in my cart but forgot about it. Then I went to buy and they raised the price back to ~$50. I contacted them to explain and they said there was nothing they could do about it, which is fair enough. Then they had it for about that price on their website and I missed the post on Ozbargain long enough for them to catch on to the fact that I was about to buy it and sure enough they jacked the price back up. I think I am starting to take the hint!

I think I read the latest Gundam game is going to be localised in English so want that. I'll grab Breaker 2 & 3 when I am in Japan (I have 1). In fact, I will be picking up a ton in Japan when I am there next, but will stick with games with minimal Japanese, my skills with the language aren't what it used to be! Some other games I really want that are out/have been out for a while are: Hyperdevotion Noire (or Re;Birth 1-3, don't have them yet), Trails of Cold Steel, and countless others! Thankfully Vita has "no good games", otherwise I'd be broke. No, wait!

        • Hah man you do have quite a history with lost dimension.
I'm sure you'll get a copy eventually though lol.

Gundam Breaker 3 looks really cool. Definitely not something I want to play without being able to read Japanese though. Looks like thousands of gundam parts all with different stats. Really neat how they put the Gunpla kit boxes in the game too.

Are you excited about the upcoming Zero Time Dilemma of the Zero Escape series? I've only played the 1st one on the DS and haven't started the second one on the vita yet but am super excited to play both.

        • +1

@Scaregdearimasu: oh yes definitely ZTD. I am part way through Zero Escape and it's brilliant. Was thinking of going back and playing 999 on the DS before going much further though.

        • @w8: 999 on ds is amazing. It's also on IOS for iphone and maybe ipad but they cut the gameplay elements to make it a straight VN basicly. So if you just want the story that's an option but I really enjoyed the puzzles and game play in the DS version.

        • @Scaregdearimasu:
Hey Gundam Breaker is not a game you need Japanese to understand. A group of us play it over at Whirlpool regularly. We all finished #1 and have copies of #2 ready to play. It's a great game and a major mistake not releasing it to the West.

        • +2

          @Where's_That_Cake: and @W8

Looks like Gundam Breaker 3 is getting a Asia English Vita release this june! http://www.play-asia.com/english-subtitles-??-gundam-breaker…

        • +1

          @Scaregdearimasu: excellent

        • @Scaregdearimasu: Nice. Now the question is whether it's possible to buy these Asian releases without paying an arm or a leg for them somehow. I was going to pic up the latest GB3 and EvF in Japan soon, but if I can find the English versions without needing to remortgage it would be better methinks :)

        • @w8: For Asian releases I've always found Yes or Play Asia the best, not with JPN releases though, just the Asian ones.

  • +2

Have soo many vita games that I need to finish. Lost Dimension, Persona Dancing, Child of Light etc. So hard to find the time.

    • Tis the problem with gaming life.
When your a child you have all the time to play video games and no money to buy video games and when you an adult you have money to buy video games but little to no time to play.

    • +1

Can certainly relate to this. It doesn't stop me from hoarding ever more games though!

This weekend, I am finally starting on Steins;Gate. Pretty good so far, and it's doing something I didn't expect: teaching me about physics :)

EDIT: Oops, finally succumbed to the Amazon Conception II deal that Scaregdearimasu posted recently, haha.

      • +1

Steins;Gate is so good. I wish I could wipe my memory of it and play it again!

        • Wow, that's high praise indeed, I'm obviously in for a treat.

I'm still only just into Chapter 2 now. I'm a pretty slow reader and am also fascinated with listening to the Japanese voices to hear how they are saying the equivalents of the English words (there's often a quite subtle deviation on what they are saying). I did the same with Danganronpa and took forever to complete it because of that - although with that game the speed and intensity of the court cases was way too intense for me to follow the Japanese, it was frying my brain just reading the English under pressure, haha.

So far I really enjoy the SG's humour. I understand it's a bit of a slow burn and takes a while for the story to take off. By all accounts it's around Chapter 4 where the story gets to the mind blowing levels from what I can find out, but I'm so scared of stumbling upon spoilers though so I only glance through what people say about the game.

Apart from this, the artwork is beautiful and I love seeing the familiar areas of Akihabara that I have frequented so many times in the past. In a similar way I'm interested in checking out the Digimon game as some of it takes place in Nakano Broadway which is another otaku area I've been to a number of times.

        • +2

@w8: it starts very slowly but you'll know once shiz gets real!

        • @Where's_That_Cake: Awesome, can't wait! So far near the end of chapter 2 (i think!) and i find the main Japanese voice actor quite hilarious! To the point I want to find out any other games he has voiced, as he is really good. Already really enjoying it, but it's taking me aaaages to progress. Having a family doesn't help there of course, but it sounds like something I should enjoy progressing slowly with anyway.

        • +2

          @w8: El Psy Kongroo

        • What's Steins Gate like? I think there's a anime on it as well?

        • @draistlin:
There is indeed an anime. If you are unwilling to play Stein's Gate in VN format it's an option but I like many believe the VN to be superior since theres more room for character development and alternate endings. Not to mention the VN came first.

          As to what it's like.
Its a VN so lots of reading. The voice acting is all excellent but it's in Japanese. I've watched a lot of anime so I can understand a lot of inflection and meaning outside of the understanding the words themselves so I really enjoyed hearing all of it while reading it.

The story gives you characters and makes you care about them. Then theres the whole scifi (premise) story itself which is really great.
For me for a VN to be great it has to have good writing, story, interesting characters, and effect the player emotionally. it did all these things and thats why It's considered one of the top in my books.

        • @Where's_That_Cake:

          @Scaregdearimasu: Tuturu~ ♫

        • +1

@Scaregdearimasu: Agree with all the visual novel comments. I find VN more personal and engrossing, but always like to check out the anime adaptations after the VN, as a recap and to reminisce if the story ends up being particularly moving :)

Would never recommend the other way around though, the the slower pace of working through a VN really builds up suspense with respect to what is going to happen next in the story. It would be a shame to watch the anime first methinks.

I live in fear of reading spoilers until I am finished (especially so when I played the first Danganronpa!)

Ooops, sorry for the double post, I thought it was going to appear beneath the post earlier >_<

          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fU3RzPQmlDY

        • @Scaregdearimasu: LOL. Starting to scope out games to pick up in Japan. Just noticed there is Steins;Gate 0 (http://www.biccamera.com/bc/disp/CSfGoodsPage_001.jsp?GOODS_…). I hope they translate it to English, but not holding my breath.

        • @w8:
I hope it gets a English localization as well.
5PB has teased with the idea though.
          https://twitter.com/5pbgamesUSA/status/613420318762254336
And it they don't I'm certain PC will get a fan translation as most good popular VN's do.
But I think English Steins gate Physical and digital copies sold well everywhere.
I ended up buying a EPK edition ps3 release from europe before USA was announced then when it showed up at JB hifi with little to no warning (like a year after europes release was announced (still angry) I bought the Vita version as well to show them that there is a market for all this so hopefully that works out.

Although I think 5pb is working on localizing another in the Scifi Adventure series at the moment. Probably Chaos head or something.

  • +2

Good news EB has preorders up for a psychical release of Odin Sphere Leifthrasir on vita, PS4 and even ps3. Ps4 also gets a Limited edition version as well. No signs of it on JB yet.

    • +1

Good stuff. Just want to say one thing about EB: they aren't always the cheapest in terms of price, but from my experience so far, I feel that the customer service has been quite exceptional. When I found out my package (Lost Dimension) had been incorrectly mis-delivered/returned by Aus Post, they answered the support number immediately by local Aussie staff outside of business hours and noted that they would watch for the package to come back.

Knowing how bad other companies tend to be, I also sent them a query online to let them know the mixup was Aus Posts fault and the address was correct and want them to resend. They confirmed my message and told me they had the record from my call and would resend as soon as they get it back. Well, I just received the tracking details from them and it's now on it's way back.

This experience - no thanks to Aus Post - has been very good I feel. With a lot of other companies I have dealt with, it would have been hell to get this resolved properly.

      • +1

Odin Sphere Vita and PS4 Preorders for JB are up now. No Story Book edition as of yet or PS3 Edition. Maybe EB exclusive?

        • Story Book edition for PS4 up on JB but no Ps3 version. Wonder if they'll skip it. Could make the ps3 edition a rare Australian release later.

Wish we could get some pre order date info a lot closer to USA and EU release times. It'd be nice to be able to actually save up for a few of these rather than just giving 1-6 months notice.

  • I'm really finding Steins Gate a chore at this point. I must be nearing the end of chapter 4 and while a couple of interesting events have unfolded to do with d-mails, I'm finding it a real grind before the story seems to want to plod along into too much details (I don't care about prefixes and look up codes when sending a pager message) and pointless banter at the maid cafe. Hoping these plot twists aren't far off, as time to switch to something else is rapidly approaching T_T.

I certainly haven't disliked the story, but feel at least 50% of dialogue could have been skipped with no impact on story or character development.

    • Thats sad to hear. Perhaps you should switch to just reading the text and skipping the rest of the audio VA work. Listening to the all the VA really increases the length of the game and I did find myself skipping some VA so I could further the plot at some points.

Stick with it if you can or maybe take a break and play something else for a bit and come back to it!

      • Yeah I think I am perhaps burning myself out trying press through when I might need a break. I don't exactly get massive slabs of time to play though, so that alone should have been avoiding burn out, but here I am. I certainly have been spending a lot of listening (and sometimes re-listening) to the voices. So that certainly hasn't helped. At the stage I am with the game I could have made much more progress if I just skimmed through the text instead. Just been worried that I would miss something of importance, plus the voice acting is so great it's a shame to miss it.

I'm also avoiding the use of any guides, so I am quite sure I am not going to end up at the true ending either, and the notion of going back and speeding through all this dialogue again if I do ever want to see that is kind of depressing.

Like I say, I have found it at worst a pleasant story with some great humour but I really feel it's pacing is just kinda wrong, at least so far.

        • Yeah without a guide I think it's probably impossible to get the true end. I don't even understand how they can think making a game that way makes sense or how anyone could get to it. There are too many variables (not really but enough to make it annoying) to brute force to a true end I will say however it's worth it.

Skipping through the game is quite easy on your second run with that skip button as it will stop at any point where you need to make a decision so put on a tv show and hold down the skip button and check your vita every once and a while and it doesn't take all that long especially if you save at major decision points then you don't have to redo things to get the other endings.
Of course I guess that could all be said of any VN with multiple endings.

@Scaregdearimasu: I decided to press on and invest some time. I've been speed reading the dialogue and just holding down the right shoulder button when the light hearted music starts (skipping all the random hentai nonsense). As a result I am up to the start of chapter 6 and the major plot event has finally unfolded at the end of the last chapter. For the first time I now have that desire to really want to know what happens next. I think it's a real shame they meandered about so long requiring a double digit investment in hours to get to this stage, but at least that feeling of engagement in the story is there now…

        • @w8: We did warn you it starts slowly and tbh a lot of that slow stuff comes back into play later, you'll probably find yourself wanting to go back and understand small parts you may have missed in there.

        • @Where's_That_Cake: Right you were/are. All good now. Just got up to the (copying directly from what is shown on my Vita right now) "HEY, MASTER. I AM MAD SCIENTIST. SO COOOOL. SONUVABITCH" part you quoted early. Totally cracked me up.

This reminds me, it's quite shocking/amusing to see Japanese people walking around with t-shirts containing English swear words, offensive phrases and whatnot. They just don't understand the gravity behind some of these words (and Japanese itself is surprisingly devoid of vulgar curse words compared to English). I remember while riding on a train over there I saw a girl sitting on a train had a t-shirt with the F-word boldly writing on it in giant text :) She would have seen the word used in many Hollywood movies and thought it was a 'cool' word as a result.

So looks like that 5PB's Psycho-Pass VN is getting localized for vita/ps4/PC and not releasing on the original Xbone like it did in japan. I wonder why any/a lot of these great Vn's are releasing on Xbox platforms first in japan when Xbox has the least consoles sold over there. Even Steins gate was originally a 360 title. No clue on release date in the west or if physical yet/ever.
Nisa also putting out another vita game called Yomawari: Night Alone

And they also teased the idea of Criminal Girls 2 localization.

    • That is strange indeed, xbox is virtually a dead platform over there. The only people that buy it seem to be those crazy gaijins over there :)

      • yeah look at these alleged Xbone Launch day photos.
        http://kotaku.com/japans-xbox-one-launch-as-sad-as-youd-expe…
I love how even on one of the photos with a guy in it they went out of their way to just point out he wasn't in line he was just playing his vita. lol.

Wow, those pictures are sure depressing. Well the picture of the Labi in Ikebukkuro brings back memories as I built my previous PC using parts built from that store. I've since built a newer pic with more modern parts for playing the latest games in 4K, but funny enough I still just play my Vita most of the time. The portability trumps all for me.

Danganronpa AE and P4D are both $29 at JB Hifi.

    in-store only atm.

  • What happened to the PS Vita games under Gaming deals, it's not there anymore.

  • Project Diva X has been out in japan for a little while now and now is confirmed to be getting Digital/physical copies in USA for both Ps4 and Vita. No word on Euro physical or Australia. Presumably at worst there will be a digital version here.
    /gif <Miku Dancing>

  • Both Dungeon Travelers 2 and Lost dimension are $29 Each at JB hifi physical locations. No stock online for these.

  • How are we all doing? I'm currently in Japan and bargain hunting used Vita games. Early days so far but I've picked up Mind Zero for the equivalent of 5 bucks and God Eater 2 for about 6. I know the former already has a US physical release, and the latter will be coming to the west, but I thought what the heck I get to play them now and test the limits of my Japanese and no way can I beat those prices :)

I'm going to get Taiko no tatsujin, Pyo pyo Tetris, Hotline Miami and the couple of the Gundam games I don't get yet. Also tempted to grab Steins Gate 0, Robotics Notes, and what appears to be no less than two Digimon titles from what I could tell (I know one is out in the west, but digital only).

    Anyone with suggestions?

    • This image has a list of recommended Japanese releases with recommendations as to you needing or not needing to know Japanese.
      http://i.4cdn.org/vg/1460308852932.jpg

Also I've heard it's significantly easier to get a free trial of Amazon Prime (2 day free shipping? assuming it's the same as USA's) on Amazon.jp and order your games from them and get them delivered at the hotel than it is to search all the games shop for a decent price.
If it were me and I didn't have some of them I'd look at buying Puyo Puyo tetris, IA/VT, Taiko Drum Master, Sayonara Umihara Kawase (platform puzzle game) got an english version but jp physical only.
And if you don't want to wait and test your reading skills, All the stein's gate spinoffs and the new Stein's Gate 0, Chaos Child, Chaos Head Dual as well as robotics notes which you've already listed. Love me some Science Adventure Series hopefully they all get localized over here in time.

      • Thanks for that list. I think VN's that are fully voiced would work out to be really good study aids, if I don't catch something I can just go back through the transcript. Being voiced helps ease the reading challenges with those pesky Kanji as well. If I find those VN's at a good price, I'll have to go for them. I have to be careful though, as games like Danganronpa would totally destroy me during the trials :). VN's of the style of Steins Gate spin offs would be quite perfect really.

Oh yeah, I've also picked up some Danganronpa manga which goes into different aspects of the games more from the point of view of the victims and killers.

        • Too late now but the Gundam Breaker series are excellent. Also One Piece PW 2 and 3 are easy to navigate.

        • @Where's_That_Cake: Thanks for the suggestions. I actually have had Gundam Breaker for some time but it went ontonmy backlog to get back into. Great game though, I agree. I was planning on picking up GB 2, but given I still have GB 1 to finish and the fact that the used prices are still a little on the high side, i figured I will wait until the next time I am here to pick those up.

Koei Tecmo’s Attack on Titan launches August in the west

    • Amazing how many games are still coming to the west given that retailers seem to have no interest in stocking games. I've noticed the ebgames stores I usually check now have almost nothing at all for Vita. JB seems better but the range of titles are very poor. This leads me to suspect that more and more of these titles will come across digital only.

      • It's true a lot are digital only at the moment. Game companies are also choosing to localize only the PS4 version of the game and ignore the vita version as well in some cases.
Still hoping we get a release of Trillion over here.

        • Enjoying the bargain hunting. I picked up Hyperdevotion Noir for 1480 yen, which was the cheapest I found around the traps. Currently tossing up between buying Hotline Miami new for 3000 yen, or used for 1800 yen. Used doesn't include the Hotline Miami 2 download code. Personally, I am not a fan of switching between accounts so haven't use my Japanese PSN account in years. I figure I could put the 1200 saved toward something else I know I will play, but it's a tough call. Shame the nanny's in control of Aus banned HM2 so it's one of the easiest ways to get it. If the download code redeemed as cross buy, I'd be able to play it on my PS3 or PS4, but I don't think it's cross buy :(

        • +1

I lucked out on a copy of Hotline Miami Collection from Book Off for 1880 yen. The code hadn't been redeemed for the 2nd game.

That's a total of 7 games purchased this trip. With these crazy JetStar sales, I'll probably go back again in 6 months for another haul.

        • @w8: Nice! Thats an awesome game with possibly the best case art ever and the price you got if for is well under half what most ebay sellers would make you pay!

        • @Scaregdearimasu: Yep, retail price is supposed to be 3600 yen or so. Cheapest new price I found was Yodobashi Camera for 3000 yen, most other shops were 3200 yen or so + 8% tax.

Another bonus is that the code redeems cross buy as PS3 & Vita. So I can just play it on my PS3 without hassle of swapping memory cards on the Vita. When I get back I can try to see if it supports remote play and then I could play on Vita anyway. If only Vita supported multiple PSN accounts at once…

  • are these Japanese bargain have English options?

    • Not many I am afraid. Hotline Miami does, but the O and X buttons are swapped to follow the Japanese convention. The only reason to buy this one in Japan is to get the physical release. If you don't have preference for physical, better to buy it on the PSN. All the other games I bought are Japanese only.

On the note of Hotline Miami, it's absolutely brilliant on the Vita. I bought it ages ago on PC and found it a bit frustrating, but on the Vita it's so perfect!!

God Eater 2 - Rage Burst for Vita and PS4 have listings with EB and JB now.
    Both out on 30/08/16.
Both versions come with a digital voucher for God Eater Resurrection Which will be digital only for the english release. God Eater Resurrection doesn't appear to have any physical english edition (not even an Asian english copy). Hopefully They make some of those.
