InB4 Taken King expletives start filling the thread.
I know this is only the base game, but there is still a lot of content for $10. If someone was wondering if the game was worth it, $10 to find out is pretty cheap. That and I need some more nOobZ to help me do VoG raids. :D
VoG is the only raid worth doing imho (although I abandoned the game after the Dark Below or HoW so can't comment on the taken king). Proper teamwork as well as reliance on individuals to perform. I believe using Destiny (no expansions) as a measure of the games worth may misrepresent the expected worth of the expansions. That is; base game good, expansions bad. Just an opinion.
Hmm so out of the three raids you liked one, didn't like one, and didn't play one.
I reckon they are all well worthwhile though I do agree Crota is the weakest.
'cept, you can't do VoG on this edition. A good price to see what's what, but you'll need to step up to the Taken King edition to get the full effect.
Why can't you do VoG?
The dark below (VoG) was the first dlc.
No Vault of Glass (VoG) was the first raid included with the base game. The Dark Below included Crota's End Raid.
Yeah, you're right, you had to unlock it in game. That was so long ago in the Destiny time line.

The base game should be free IMHO, since TTK it's such a pointless grind that vanilla is little more than upgrade-bait now.

You couldn't be more wrong. You can still play through the original content… and at EB's current trade-in value for it, you can buy this for $10, try it out and then take it in to EB and get $11-$12 back for it. Keep the money/trade-in credit or use that money to get The Taken King. Basically a free playthrough of the original game.
Its not useless - I have all 3 DLC and have only played strikes….

It's a base game in that it is one on which ongoing DLC is based, and is required for playing said DLC
You have to buy the dlc plus pay for plus.
It's a great game but the lack of match making for some of the end game content makes it unplayable for many people.
Is this multiplier only?
No, you can play a lot of it by yourself, but you will need Internet and you will need PS Network (or Xbox live for Xbox players) access to play it. It is more fun with more players and mates though. There are massive forums and places you can find people though.
Also this is the Base which means to play is will be roughly a 20gb update required for the voice over redo map updates etc. The Taken King Raid is very good. Better than VoG due to more reliance on teamwork, timing, and communication. There's also some more House of Wolves quest line in TTK that goes on and explains how Fallen Houses reform after Skolas was killed.
They have the 360 version on clearance for the same price too.
