I have been searching for a phone <$350 and i came across this cheap S5 on Ali Express:

I just wanted to get people's thoughts on the phones validity and whether they think it will be real and is worth buying?
Feels too good to be true! The cheapest ive seen the S5 was $374 during the HN deal…

Rule of thumb is don't buy brand name stuff from Aliexpress unless youre happy with a fake (brand name undies for example).
check the feedback. it appears the seller sells genuine. though units maybe be refurbished.
as infrared and theworks say - warranty is virtually zero and a lot of "brand" items can be fake. always check feedback. No feedback = fake item.
my aliexpress advice (with 300+ transactions) never buy usb sticks or memory cards from aliexpress. if they are too cheap then they are fake. even if they are genuine then they can be sourced through a deal here for the same price (if not cheaper)

Really helpful - i think i'll probably skip out on this deal and maybe buy a S4 from ebay which is more in my budget range.
Anyone else have suggestions for phones under $350 with a descent camera and good battery life?

oh please dont.. i bought fake galaxy s6 from ebay second hand the seller said he didnt know.. but in one sec you will notice straight away, plastic built and crap camera and poor resolution. lucky paypal return my money.
I would recommend Gumtree actually. There are a few genuine people wanting to offload phones and you can inspect before you buy. Just be smart about your purchases and stay safe.
I agree with this. My last 4-5 phones were bought from gumtree and never had any issues.
You can buy a sung Galaxy S5 from eBay from $415. They are probably refurbished and grey imports but still you will get 12 month local warranty.
But why buy S5 when you can buy a suberb Samsung Galaxy Note 3 for $50-100 less.
Just check the eBay sellers feedback and you know what you are getting into :)
ZTE Blade S6 comes in under $300 at Officeworks, definitely comparable to the S4.
Aliexpress is usually fake stuff plus warranty on this will either be a pain or nonexistent.
