New Mobile Plan iPhone 6s - Porting from Amaysim

Apologies, this request has probably been asked many times, been going through Forum.

I have had issues with Amaysim reception or lack thereof. Looking to port away from Amaysim.

Have been trawling for the best Data rich plan - but doesn't seem to be many good deals out there, best I have come across is Virgin $40 for 8GB.
Do you have any plan suggestions please?

Also, will also probably transition from my Sony Z5 to iPhone 6s - so inclusion of handset in plan might be handy; otherwise I usually like the freedom of buying handset unlocked outright and then going on a prepaid unlimited plan to avoid surprise excess charges.

Any assistance/ suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    If reception is your problem, Virgin won't help as they also resell Optus. You want a Telstra reseller (Aldi, Boost, actual Telstra). Vodafone is generally worse than Optus, but might be better where you live? Ask others nearby if they're on Voda and what reception they get.

    It also varies a lot by phone. I've had 2 bars of 4G when others on the same network have only had "circle" or 1 bar of 3G.

      Very valid point Lupiter. I have the new Sony Z5 but opting to give into iPhone - what phone do you use?

        I have an iPhone 6, partner also on Virgin (Optus network) with an iPhone 5S.

          Both on Virgin? Do you mind me asking what sort of plan you're on with Virgin? Looking for a deal since I'm switching over.

          @contactalmighty: We're on an old plan, they used to have a $19 plan with 1.25GB of data, but now it's $20 with 250MB. If you don't mind prepaid I'd take a look at Boost's $20 recharge, or Aldi Mobile's M Pack, also $20.

    Just seconding you need to change the back-end carrier. Amaysim use Optus and Virgin is just a subsidary of Optus so coverage will be no better.

    You will need to work out if better value to buy handset outright and cheap plan or get plan with included handset.

    On plan
    64GB iPhone 6S with plan will be ~$80/mth = $1,920 over 24 mths

    Outright & SIM only plan
    Outright purchase 6S 64GB = $1,229 (RRP)
    Plan @ $40/mth for 24m = $960
    Total cost over 24m with $30/mth plan = $1,949
    Total cost with 24m with $40/mth plan = $2,189

    Depends on what deals you can get

      Thanks for the recommendation of comparison sites - awesome, didn't realise they existed. I'm just weary of plans as I don't want to commit for 2 years… thus the lure of prepaid PAYG plans

    In regards to handset, my Z5 is dying already so maybe just a cheap handset until the iPhone 7 comes out?

      What do you mean 'dying'?
      The Xperia Z5 only recently came out. Get it fixed. My god….
      What a waste of money.
