Free $50 Sports Voucher for Students in Reception to Year 7 (South Australia)

150

What is the Sports Vouchers program?
The Sports Vouchers program is a Government of South Australia initiative administered by the Office for Recreation and Sport. The program provides an opportunity for primary school aged children from Reception to Year 7 to receive up to a $50 discount on sports membership/registration fees. The purpose is to increase the number of children playing organised sport by reducing cost as a barrier to participate in sport.

Who is eligible for the program?
All South Australian primary school aged children, meaning if the child is attending or is eligible to attend primary school. Remember it is one voucher for every primary school aged child per calendar year. To find your nearest provider please use the ‘Find a Club’ tool.

How does the program work?
There are currently two methods of claiming a voucher. The method depends on the providers system. Some sports and providers have online registrations, claiming the voucher has been integrated into their systems.

If the provider does not have the voucher integrated into their online registrations, you’ll need to download the voucher. Once completed, take the voucher to an approved provider to receive a discount on the fees when you register at the provider.

Providers access the secure Voucher Portal to redeem vouchers and receive reimbursement.

When will the program finish?
The Government of South Australia has approved a program budget until 2017/18. The Minister for Recreation and Sport opened the program in February 2015 with a letter to parents.

    for Students in Reception

    You have students working in Reception? Is that to save money on secretaries?

      Students in Reception - I think they weed out the less intellectually inclined ones at an early age and teach them to answer the phones and cut and paste emails

      Probably also available to students in Janitorial if you read the fine print

      Better than Children in Detention…

      Better still would be Science vouchers.

      We used to have a Science centre in SA.

      Such vouchers -might- have been helpful
      in keeping it open… but, no, sports-
      training is deemed more useful (to a
      career in the trades, I suppose) than
      training in How Scientific Method works.

      BTW, is there an Election approaching?

      Finally, why is this a "Deal" in the
      OzB sense of the word…? :-/

      • You dont increase fitness playing with beakers amd test tubes

      • Election was last year, next one in 2019.

  • receive up to a $50 discount on sports membership/registration fees.

    discounts aren't freebies…

    • You mean:

      • Freebies aren't necessarily Discounts…?

    Reception? Does any state use that instead of the usual kindergarten/prep vernacular?

      obviously behind in child labour laws in SA….

      Kindy and reception are different.
      Kindy is part time for 4 year olds where they mainly play and socialise.
      Reception is the first year of Primary School, when kids turn 5 and begin learning.

      • Also known as Grade 1 here in Queensland.

        • The year before year 1. It's called Transition in the NT

        • @hellno:
          In each case, words choseing are WAY TOO LONG
          for any participant to learn to say them,
          let alone spell them…

          Grade 1 leaves offers no challenge;
          nothing to look forward to learning
          in the future… Any kind can count
          to 1. ;-)

        • @hellno:

          The year before year 1 here in Queensland used to be called pre-school. Kids just playing all day. Been a long time since i went to school so things may have changed.

        Well, Prep in Victoria in that case…

        • makes sense to me.. "Prep" -Preparation for Year/Grade 1

          @Da dpG:

          makes sense to me.. "Prep" -Preparation for Year/Grade 1

          "Reception" -Increase frequency of school attendance

          That's why folks in Vic. can do so much more
          than elsewhere's folks can do:

          • They weren't given insurmountable tasks of
            . Learning, in their first encounter with the
            . Ed Biz (ie, Education).

          Prep they can at least say, from day 1;
          and - soon thereafter - they'll be able
          to spell it, too.

    I used these vouchers last year for both my kids with auskick. I only had to pay $13 for the term. This was great because they had 10 lessons and received a sports bag full of footy goodies. its worth having a look.

    If you have a child wanting to attend a cricket session that cost $50 you will receive this sports lessons free.

      How / Why does any child come to be
      "wanting to attend a cricket session"
      (rather than wondering How their World
      works, eg, as a Science hobbyist)?

  • Reception?

    What's next… Stobie poles?

    • You mean for tossing the cabbre (sp?), eh, man?

      Scottish Games are the place for that.

      PS The PIXAR film "Brave" mentions the above sport.
