Got one last year and it works very well for me - if you're after a vacuum sealer, then this is good for the price.
This is the normal price for them though (Aldi at least).Aldi prices have been pretty ordinary lately… Bring on the competition…
Any specific price rises you can list? I've heard rumors but seen no evidence.
Any specific price rises you can list?
I'm not talking about their standard groceries, but their 'weekly specials' aren't that special…
Do you know if it is suitable for sous-vide cooking - the bags in particular I guess - are they stable up to 80 degrees c or so?
From the picture link to the bags on the same page:
BPA free
Microwave, dishwasher, boil and freezer safeThank you.
Yes, use them with sous-vide all the time.
You can get non-Aldi BPA free bags from quite a few places including eBay (with a reputable seller of course).
Why is this a "deal"?
It's a standard price on a standard sealer.
It is cheaper than vacuum food sealers available elsewhere at shops.
Well, I am not sure about that. In any case, so is Aldi's lemonade and soda water.
Yet that doesn't mean that there should be a deal posted on OzBargain about Aldi's 1.25L drinks, or any other REGULAR price at any other store.
These sealers are easy to find on Ebay, at this price or cheaper: http://goo.gl/UKWr75 - and that's ex-Australia with free delivery or Click+Collect at Woolworths.
So, whilst they may be cool devices, I am still unsure why is this is particularly interesting as a "deal"?
Thanks for the neg, whoever you were.
I guess that is confirmation that what I wrote is correct, and that there is no evidence that this is a "deal".
@llama: cheaper means less than: I could not find dollars cheaper in that eBay listing. They all seem to have an agreement for a firm $69-ish price. (This sucks). I think it is eaiser to return to a local AlDI within the 60 or 90 days they have if I don't like it or the Woolies/Big W offering. I need to compare watts or vaccum power (eg 85 kPa).
One of the shit things about getting a food sealer from Aldi is that they don't regularly stock the food sealer bags. So I either have to buy online, or wait for this deal to come around again.
And yes, the aldi bags are ok for sous vide - they're bpa free and are able to be used in a microwave, dishwasher, freezer and you can boil them.
I do thoroughly recommend getting a food sealer though. It's great for preventing freezer burn, for extending the life of the bazillion different cheeses and nuts I have, and they can seal most open plastic food packets (like chips or salad leaf mix). Do it!
So with this food sealer are there just generic bags you can buy on the net for them or are there specific types of bags you need to get?
You need channel bags, same as every other non-chamber sealer, but you can get them pretty cheap via ebay. Unless you move up to a chamber sealer, you are stuck using the same bags.
Of the consumer machines, they are all pretty much the same thing. I'd recommend one with manual pumping/sealing controls, which make liquids possible (but annoying), but that's about it.
Thanks.
It looks like the normal price…
