Next time you are in town try some addidas or new balance shoes on and photo the tags so when a online sale happens you know what size to order.
Shoe sizes vary across brands and styles so imo it's always better to try in store first.

This means when i find something i like and don't know which size, I buy it in a few sizes and then send back the ones that don't fit or i don't like… Especially good for sale items, buy up a bunch of stuff on sale, work out what to keep ans return the rest
Return shipping can cost $10-15 or more each time so it pays off
