Syma X5SW FPV Quadcopter Alternatives?

Hi all,
After getting a pretty good hang of flying around a Syma X12S, I would like to get an FPV quad that's a bit larger.

The Syma X5SW seems to fit the bill pretty perfectly but I've read/seen that it suffers from the "wind bug" (where flying it into a bit of a breeze makes the quad level out instead of pitching forward to fight it) that my X12S also suffers from.

Anyone know of any alternatives that aren't stupidly expensive?

Cheers.

  • Get an Eachine 250 racer from banggood. The new falcon model looks sweet.

    • Sure does look sweet, but is a bit more than I'm willing to spend at the moment.
Any other suggestions? I like the idea of wifi based fpv streaming to a phone to keep costs lower.

  • Just to follow up on my own post which generated oh so much interest (it's fine, really haha)

I learnt that 2.4GHz Wifi FPV is really shitty. You save a bit of money because you can usually use your phone as the screen but it has short range and more lag. It also interferes with the 2.4GHz the remote works on so both ranges are shortened.

    I ended up with a WLToys V686G.
This was $145 delivered off eBay. Video is handled over 5GHz and it comes with a screen that attaches to the remote.
Flies plenty quick, range is massive (100m+).

The WLToys Q212G is the same but with barometric altitude hold. This is a better option for those wanting to take nicer video shots as it's much easier to fly and keep stable but personally I was more interested in mastering flight more manually rather than pretty videos.

The JXD 509G also has altitude hold and good 5GHz video but it descends very slowly once it's in the air.

The Syma X5HW, which will be in stock soon, is the X5SW with altitude hold. Unknown if it'll have the wind bug but it is a 2.4GHz FPV flyer which was crossed off my list.

Hope this helps someone out there.

  • Haha I'll give you some comment love just because it feels a bit empty in here
