Advice on new monitor for parents PC

Having problems with current monitor on pc so time to get a new one for them.

Only requirements:

  • 24"
  • Height adjustable stand.
  • Inbuilt Speakers.

They will be using the motherboards onboard video card which has DVI-D & HDMI. Both supporting a maximum resolution of 1920x1200.

Other than that the main use will be for business. No gaming. So don't need anything fancy. Just wondering what monitors are available out there that meet there requirements?

  • Scrap the inbuilt speakers and buy a set of powered speakers.
It'll open up your possibilities, sound better and be cheaper.

I'm not sure why they'd need better sounding speakers when likely they just want the beeps and chimes that come with Email software etc.

      • OK, I'll replace that with..
They can hide them under a desk and subsequently make the area feel bigger cause the monitor wont have the extra width of the speakers.

The fact that monitors with speakers are rare
and (I'm guessing here) come at a premium.
        still stands true.

U2412M + the $25 soundbar additional off eBay (clip right under the monitor). Adjustable stand, 24 inch, 16:10 1920x1200, matte anti-glare. You can get them for around ~250 on the Dell Outlet if you get lucky and there is stock, they're about ~350 brand new, and according to the wiki you can haggle it down to 279 (the usual sale price) if you speak to a sales rep

    • ^ this

    • Yeap, that's the stuff you'll want. 16:10 monitor for work goodness.

If you can't find the Dell in stock, I would grab the Samsung LS24C65KBW, it's a PLA monitor with 16:10 reso and it goes for $295 from UMART.

No speakers but I'm sure you can buy a cheap speaker from Kmart or Target or Hot Dollar store for less than 10 dollars.

      Here's a logitech Z120 for $20 bux.

      • I got mine from an ex-office refurbished store, saw that their eBay store had a shopfront in Melbourne so I went and took a look. Only 3 months warranty, and 1-2 scruffs on the bezel aside its a steal at $195. Plus, you can get them to get you a non A00 model with the crap factory calibration

Dell Outlet has refurbished business monitors for cheap. The 24" ones tend to sell out quick!

HP Elite Displays are quite good too.

    • i think that's what the post 2 up from yours says

…and the one 1 up from yours also

      • When I posted, no one had commented.

        • i think you'll find that the post at 14.42 and mine at 15.07 are somewhat before your post at 15.49….but maybe that DeLorean in your driveway speaks volumes ! ;)

          @oscargamer:

I knew you were gonna say that and I'm prepared.
I did not refresh the page and forgot about it, because I had 20 chrome tabs open. I came back after 3 and replied.

@cDNA: If you knew he was gonna say that, you should have just told the full story upfront.

You can get refurbished monitors from the D …… :)

I think for basic business use, an Ultrasharp is overkill. Excel doesn't need a 100% sRGB gamut and minimal colour shift at angles.

Dell's "normal" series should be fine, e.g. the E2314H going for $150 on the outlet at the moment. It also supports the Dell AC511 speaker bar.

It's 16:9 though, if that matters. The non-techy people at work whom I've given 16:9 monitors to don't seem to know any better.

    • Adjustable stand is Professional/Ultrasharp only I'm pretty sure (that particular monitor at least doesn't have one). And 16:10 is a godsend for excel and word, you get like 4-5 extra lines per page

    • :o)

  • What about the following two options?

    BenQ BL2405HT (Height adjmust + Speakers, 16:9)
    Philips 241S6QYMB (Height adjust + Speakers, 16:9)
