Saw this on buckscoop, where there is a photo. Seems like the $7.9 'special' by woolworths is now also permanent, thanks to coles. Great for consumers, not so great for farmers as the price war continues.

Are we gonna see $7.80 chooks from Coles in reply to Woolies $7.90? The independent chicken shops are getting squeezed out. Even the local Chinese soy chickens look expensive at $16 a bird.
disgusting chicken but cheap
Welcome to 2017.
I'm glad the RSPCA approved the slaughtering of these chickens.

I take back a bit of what I said previously…I refer to the raw chooks which are about the same size as the roast variety (smaller by the minute).
However, there are many times that a much more sizable chook is "reduced to clear" — & those are what I look for. Even the trays of chicken pieces can sometimes get marked down to less than $3 kilo. I buy them up, repack if necessary, & freeze.
Our weekly menu is ALWAYS based on what is on sale. It makes it easy & fun- as we never know what we're having- lol.
;)
PS: shred unused or bulk chicken & freeze. Then wait for a sale on enchilada meals (or buy the tortillas & enchilada sauce yourself- you don't "have to" use the tiny corn ones). We also like mexican beans, cheese, & fresh diced tomato added into the tortilla before covering with the sauce & cheese to bake. Just sooooo yum!
