  • What's the minimum quantity of clothes required?
Do you have to be a uber member?

Wouldn't uber drivers already have an assortment of under and outerwear each Sunday morning left behind by passengers on friday and saturday nights?

      • Good point
There was an AMA with a uber driver recently in the forums. Maybe you should PM him and get back to the ozb community

      • Drivers would be obliged to hold/store (or deposit with, eg, Police, maybe?) such items, which rises with their value.

PS Back to the Red Cross service…

This is an IDEAL way to collect donations - ie, you know WHO is donating.

This should pretty much eliminate bogus donations (eg, trash or worthless garments, needing to many repairs, etc.) Of course, drivers will need to -check- items before putting in the car…

When donors are anonymous, some outdoor charity bins get filled with unusable items, that can't be recycled or left in general trash bins.

        +1 Uber

Taxis, when are you going to "compete" with similar charitable acts?

        • Drivers would be obliged to hold/store (or deposit with, eg, Police, maybe?) such items

Doubt the police would be accepting uber drivers delivery of random pieces of clothing left behind from inebriated passengers over the weekend, which may/may not contain vomit and/or other examples of human DNA

        • I think Uber is paying the fare for the driver who picking up the clothes.

        • @kaihoc: mark this thread as solved - give kaihoc the prize

    • yes you have to be a uber member to make the 'booking'

Maybe you should mention this service in this deal - FREE: T-Shirt Delivered @ Gibbons Legal

    • Did you get yours?

      • I didn't try and get one, I just remembered the deal because it was so random.

        • I never received mine. Did anyone else get their shirt?

        • @moogi27: No longer a valid offer, due to overwhelming demand…

      Edited for the skeptics ;)

_4. Uber driver calmly drives to the next street, goes through your bag and takes things of value before dropping off the rest at a local Red Cross Shop – free of charge.

      • +4

Now now, us Uber drivers are fine upstanding members of the local community!

    • +2

So, 1 in 20 people in Australia, live in Blacktown city council, in "Western Sydney", Uber doesn't cover that area?!? Too much public transport competition, I wonder.

  • -4

but the fact you don't need to drive anywhere may sway it towards a deal?

    You still have to walk

Vehicles can’t be left unattended so please bring your bagged donations to your driver when they arrive

    Oh well

  • +1

This is really useful, I have two huge bags of unwanted clothes that have been sitting here for weeks! Thanks TA

  • +6

It's a deal, saves fuel and time. I just got this email and feel it's one of the best things Uber has done. Thanks for the post TA

  • +7

Can the Uber driver drop you off along the way to said Red Cross?

    • +13

If you wear some of the clothes to be donated , then wear a bag, the T&Cs are surely met.

Just be sure to bring a change of clothes or you may be left naked outside the salvos

      • +1

Not for long if you bring some spare change.

    • doubt it, the uber driver will be going around doing more than one pickup, before doing a drop off.

  • +7

Hopefully people donate clothes that are useable!

  • Damn, no Uber in Tassie :(

    • +2

Are there cars in Tassie? Just a question :P~

      • Yes there are. Just that I don't. :(

    • +1

Can you please deliver bin to my backyard please.

    • Contact uber, perhaps you can organise a similar promo involving your bin and slightly soiled clothing donations?

    • +3

Well, yeah, if you prefer to throw away clothes that could be donated to the needy.

    • +3

      You sir have no Swag

  • -4

I'm quite certain that since 1994 almost every accessible human being has clothes thanks to Chinese industry.

But why not, I guess Ubers whole kitch is appealing to the youth, and the youth would love to get rid off their old clothes!

    • +3

      So. Many. Errors.

I'm quite certain that since 1994 almost every human being in this country has had access to basic knowledge of the written word, and Spell check

      • -2

I meant it in more the sense that people still think sending their shirts to 'AFRICA' or the homeless is doing good, when in fact they just want a place to throw out their short term fashion garbage.

    • +5

You're right, I checked my old Family photo album and my Grandpa and Grandma seem to be always naked. Thank you China for putting some clothes on their backs, I don't have to vomit everytime I visit the relos.

  • ummm you dont even need to drive anywhere….

  • +3

    From website:

Please only donate quality clothing and gifts that are saleable
All items must be bagged for drivers to accept your donation
Vehicles can’t be left unattended so please bring your bagged donations to your driver when they arrive
We expect high demand so please be patient if a car isn’t available right away
Unfortunately not all requests will be fulfilled however we’re working to collect as many donations as possible on the day

    • While I think this is a great idea, the problem of textile waste going into landfill is huge, and it's very difficult to find someone who will take clothes that are worn out, ripped etc. Saleable items aren't so hard to dispose of… there's always eBay or Gumtree.

  • +1

Can you accompany your clothes? I need a lift to the city. And id like to make sure they get there…

    • See my comment above

    • nope, uber drivers will be doing more than one pickup in the area and don't get to pick the path they go.

pickups are just 'jbbs' to them.

  • +1

They always posting bags in my mailbox to put clothes in and place in front of my house for collection by one charity or another. Never had to drive anywhere, and this has been going on for decades

  • Great post TA.

  • Just remember when you book these promotions your debit/credit card gets debited $1 each time you request, You are not charged this $1 but it can take 10 days before its not "pending" in your account. This is ubers way of knowing your account is real!

**Please only donate quality clothing and gifts that are saleable

    Quality…..saleable?

    How to be quality?

  • Excellent. Was meant to drop my clothes off soon. Saves me the trip. Thanks OP

  • Sweet more treasures for me when i macklemore up the op shops

  • Whats the actual charity percentage on these businesses after "handling and management" costs.
I prefer smaller charities which donate directly.

    • after "handling and management" by each uber driver, the red cross will be lucky to get a pair of stained undies, a right sock and a moth eaten football premiers t shirt from the 90's or similar from each donation

    • Most of the staff are volunteers, in the stores, so I imagine pretty low admin overhead, just the essential accountant / management overheads.
