Cheap BYO Mobile Phone Plan for Seniors (Little to No Data Required)

Looking to find a new plan for both my mum and grandma as the switch to Telstra with the younger gen hasn't benefitted them and they're eating through their credit
1 - mostly calls, no SMS so not too interested in free SMS bonuses that come with recharge
2 - preferably fixed low cost or prepaid to avoid nasty $30 used in 3 calls
- alternatively: wouldn't mind longer time to use credit
3 - no data required for grandma, a little data would be ok for the mother ship as she may use google maps if there is data.

As a guide when they were with vodafone prepaid 1-2 years ago they would use $20-30 per month; sometimes less for grandma

Thanks OzB! Can always count on you guys to point me to a good deal :)

ALDI has simple to use casual plans with a long expiry. Anyone can understand the per minute charge so there should be no surprises. 12c per minute flare rate.

    • thanks mskeggs - thought there was mixed reviews about ALDI from ozB comments but the price looks great and the new tool based on your usage is great! perhaps I got mixed up in terms of value with reviews for one of the other smaller providers!

      • Aldi is Telstra network, so coverage will be best.

Jeenee $18 gets 300mins of calls and 1.8Gb data
and unlimited Jeenee2Jeenee calls (so mum and grandma can chat as long as they want)

  • Have a look at Optus My Prepaid Daily. It's good value for those who don't make calls frequently — less than once a day.

On a day she makes a call, it uses up $1 and gives a 30-min total allowance for calls that day (plus 40 MB data if you need it).

If she spends longer than 30 min on calls that day, it uses up another 50c, and she gets upgraded to unlimited calls for the rest of the day.

Credit lasts up to 6 months, and it costs nothing on the days you don't use it.

Just get voda prepaid on a 365 plan (i think the minimum cost is $20/year) and get them to prank you, then you call them back.

    Go Global $8.88 p/m

About 22 Oz-wide untimed calls to home or mobile (& 90+ International) p/m are included. More calls are 46c untimed to mobile etc which is ok.
    1gb data
On Voda network. ?Well somebody has to use them.
Seriously looks decent, but not tried myself.

Definitely recommend aldi as well for infrequent users like grandma. 1 year expiry even for a $5 sim, can't beat that. You can also port the number to aldi quite quickly as well.

For mum, I would recommend amaysim (As You Go plan + 10G data pack). A little bit of data will be very useful outdoors. Previously I bought a 10gb datapack for $70, which lasts a year. Call rates are cheap, so you can put in $10 to $20 call credit that expires every 90 days. Dont forget the $10 referral credit and cashrewards cashback for new users. https://m.amaysim.com.au/mobile-plans/amaysim-mobile-broadba…

    • This is a really great solution for people who use little in texts/calls but sometimes lots of data, like when I am travelling.

  • Another vote for prepaid 365 no expiry date Voda fone Sims.
Cheap $12.50 (Phonebot) 1 wk delivered to door, store a few. 365d converted by VF.
Came out in August I think. Might consider Tasker, AutomateIt/Pusbullet for this.

    Talk10 + data10 ($20/m) on-the menu:
http://vodafone.intelliresponse.com/index.jsp?requestType=No… spread out a $40 to 56-112 days like no other for small regular consumptions of 200 mins 1 Gb 100mins 500megs. No pesky toggling for data mgt Set and forget essentially.

If talking < 30 mins per month, then by standard prices (as opposed 12.50 across 4x28d :D that popular resold optus looks a few bucks less.

  • Kisa phone is a phone that is good for seniors, people with disabilities or for little kids. They are based in melbourne. You pick the sim that you
Want in the phone, e.g kogan has unlimited for $16.95 a month, boost mobile runs on telstra but is much cheaper, vayay has a sim where you can pay for a year up front at aust post for around $178 in total for unlimited. You must send them the sim after you have activated it. They install it in the phone along with up to ten phone numbers for the person to dial. You can also upload a photo of each person to match their mobile number, so even if the person cant read If they can press the button with e.g.your photo they will be able to call you. I think you can also choose to have an alarm function for emergency to use or they can disable it.go to kisaphone.com.au . I havent read their site in a while but i originally got a brochure about it from a chemist in Bentleigh , vic.
