Sorry but the calculations in the article are just fake. There is just no way one can get a currywurst for 1.50 pounds in Berlin City Centre. Yes, things in Germany are cheap but they are not that cheap and the area around the Brandenburg gate is the most expensive place for food (source: lived there, been there, have friends there, see internet).
So, that for one is wrong. Equally, the train fares and the bus fares also seem a bit too much on the low side (again, lived there, have taken buses from Stansted many, many times).
This is just an article to make people read the website and to self-promote. Cleverly done by the guy but unfortunately a bit of a tale.
There is just no way one can get a currywurst for 1.50 pounds in Berlin
But apparently a currywurst and a roll costs 2€.
2.00 EUR = 1.52 GBP
No, it does not in reality. Not at the Brandenburg gate. Try 4 Euros or 4.50 euros.
For 2 euros you can get it in normal areas but not in tourist areas. Konnopke's Imbiss is not at the Brandenburg Gate.
Well it is 4km from the Brandenburg gate but I would say he had time to get there. Even lonely planet confirms that their sausages are €1.40-1.90.
Here's a different one that's only 2km from the gate for €1.90: http://www.yelp.com.au/biz/curry-61-berlin
Again, price is almost a year old.
I just asked some friends last night who live there and actually work around the Gate. No way this is true. They do not know anywhere for that price in that area now and they are born and bred there.
Sorry, but the article is definitely exaggerated.
P.S.: Would not put too much emphasis on Lonely Planet. After all it is a business and do not believe that there is nothing going on in the background (if you get what I mean) for inclusion in the guide. I know a couple of people who could tell you some nice stories about their experience in this area.
That's not really how pricing works over there. Or in general.
Energy costs went up due to nuclear exit, food went up, rents etc. ALso, they want to have bigger profit.
The fact of the matter is that reality is you will not get this for 2 euro at the Gate, whether you like it or not.
As confirmed by people who live there now.
Ryan air is good. Flew from gatewick to cork for £3 with them. This guy has the right idea
i flew from gold coast - sydney - brisbane for 8 dollars using expiring emirates points. i live in coolie, and mate lives near airport… didn't make any sense, but felt like i was using my points
What a champ. I remember last year when I went to KL with AirAsia it was cheaper for 2x tickets there than when my mum flew to Port Headland at the same time, something like $275ea return vs $600 return for the one ticket.
