Setup two accounts, 1 for US PSN and 1: AU PSN if you already have enough Trophies to warrant keeping your account.
Download everything under the US PSN and play in the AU PSN. And you're ready to play!

You have to make your US account the primary account, which is done by activating it and making sure your Aus account is deactivated. Google how to do it. I do this for my Canadian psn which has all the trophies, friends list, etc… where I have the psn plus on my new Aus account and is the primary.
As far as I know the only cheap way is by getting discounted PS store cards but the last sale I saw ended dec 7 (2 $30 cards for $50 at 7-11 source www.giftcardsonsale.com.au). I get my xbox live from g2a normally and it almost killed me to pay full price for PS plus (even if it was my sons money not mine). We did get the yearly option which was cheaper than monthly.
