Replacement Toyota Keyless Entry Chip (Remote Chip Only)

Hi all,

Trying to find somewhere or someone to fix my busted Toyota keyless entry. Its obvious what is wrong - the key chip is dead (that would be my fault) and has been thrown in the bin, but the key + transponder are fine so the car starts and drives fine. The shell is perfectly fine, i'm not sure how it stayed so remarkably intact actually

This is exactly what i want to buy BUT having spoken to the site, they don't sell to the public. And their "rep" locksmith wants $350 for the same key which is total BS!! This remote chip is $60 on the website

Anyone have any experience with this kind of thing and know where I can get it from? Or know a half-decent locksmith that isn't going to try to rip me off?

Thanks

  • Might be worth asking these guys, they seem pretty informative!

    • I looked on their site but they seem to mostly sell the keys and shell, not the remotes

      • What I meant, was if you ask them in the comments or PM them, they seem to point people in the right direction for items they don't stock.

  • I might be able to help with a aftermarket type.. what car, model, year is this for?

Are you sure that's the correct remote you need as they come in many frequencies.

    • That sounds great if you can!

Car is a 2011 Corolla Ascent sedan
Vin is JTNBU….. i believe the start of the vin is important?

I am fairly sure this is correct part but yes ill check before buying a $100 part

  • Your best option would be to search eBay US, UK etc. Buying from a Toyota dealer would end up costing an arm and a leg. At least that was my experience. MY15 Grand Cherokee - Lost a transponder and at the dealership they wanted $800. I bought one(hardly used) from eBay UK for ~$90 and got the dealer to program it for $100. Perhaps for Toyota it is a bit cheaper and easily available. But make sure you match the new one with car model, year and part number as different countries tend to use different frequencies for the same transponder. In spite of the purchase location you would still have to go to a Toyota dealer or a third party locksmith to have it programmed(paired) with your car.

    • That looks like the easy part. The keyless entry can be programmed with a few weird door movements, turn key, un turn key, etc

  • Can you mention the part number here? Usually engraved or printed on the remote in tiny characters.

  • Tricky part is, the part number is written on the damaged chip…which i chucked out haha

Im 99% confident this was correct part, i have another site that gave same part for my exact model car (zre etc)

  • I have a remote that should work with this but i dont have anything with 2 buttons.

    where are you located?
