Waterproof, motion-detection camera to catch littering neighbours

We don't know who it is, but one of our neighbours are pretty scummy and seem to have a habit of throwing litter on specifically our driveway or footpath.

I would like recommendations for a camera that can be easily hidden outside, waterproof, battery powered, and have motion detection so I can send footage to the relevant authorities.

  • I purchased a swann branded systen from dse a few years ago for a similar reason. Weather proof, ir light fir night viewing , motion detection via software config. Not battery powdered though, but comes with long cables for the cameras. I think you can get the package these days for about 500. Thats with 4 cameras. Records to hard drive supplied with unit. Can hold weeks of footage at a time. Easy as to setup and configure.

    • did you catch anything?

yeah my suspicions were confirmed - the old woman living next door with dementia was throwing crap over the fence when I wasn't there. went to the police but they said to take it to council because no law had been broken and therefor they couldn't intervene. If you have idiot neighbors the only legal option (QLD) is a Peace and Good Behavior order through Neighborhood Disputes Resolution Act.

  • A totally different option is to look at a trail-camera, the kind of cameras hunters use to see what animals are using game trails. Weatherproof, battery operated, designed to be hidden and take motion triggered decent photos day and night.

These can be had quite cheaply online from the States from a big-box retailer like BassPro.

    • This sounds like an ideal option given there is a bit too much distance from the house to run a cable. I'll check it out, thanks.

  • Could just be the wind - are you at the end of a cul-de-sac or similar situation?

Unlikely that a neighbor would be targeting you for their refuse unless you were perceived as having done wrong by them

  • trail camera is what you're looking for.

Be aware despite the camo they stick out.

Maybe an obvious camera is a better solution.

It may act as deterrent and stop the litter problem.

The relevant authorities may not be all that helpful.

Have you checked out Netgear Arlo?

  • +1 for Arlo cameras. I commented recently on them.
