I've always hoped that national decisions be one day made by a dynamic and elected roundtable leadership composed of, say, five members, supplemented by significantly increased voting powers conferred on the public through increased microreferendums (see, eg, Switzerland). History and social dynamic theories suggests that a single individual will still end up pulling the thick strings, however.
