I've always hoped that national decisions be one day made by a dynamic and elected roundtable leadership composed of, say, five members, supplemented by significantly increased voting powers conferred on the public through increased microreferendums (see, eg, Switzerland). History and social dynamic theories suggests that a single individual will still end up pulling the thick strings, however.

Re Passports. I am dual national British-Australian.
When I come and go to/from Oz I cannot use my British passport, only my Oz one. Yet the British passport has a statement from HM the Queen asking to allow the bearer to travel "without let or hindrance". The Australian government ignores this because the person is Australian. Crazy double standard.
