Usual fee varies by country. ($37 to PNG.)
New customers using the Moneygram kiosk in 7/11 automatically have an invisible promotion code applied, reducing the fee to $1.
(I had no idea. I thought it was going to be $37, but a popup said promotion code applied, and fee was only $1.)
I had to send money urgently to somebody in PNG without a bank account. I could only find Moneygram and Western Union who would facilitate this.
On AUD$500, Western Union exchange rate was going to rip me off an additional AUD$10, plus their fee was AUD$50 was opposed to Moneygram's AUD$37.
It cost me AUD$441.88 including fee to send K900. xe.com reckons it should have cost $425, so wasn't too bad for an emergency situation. So I guess it cost me $17.
For comparison, I sent an atm card via registered post so I would never have to use a service like this again, and that cost $14.90 and who knows how long it will take it get there.
There are better value options if the receiver has a bank account and you can wait 3 days.
Better to use Worldremit when sending money.Reliable. Cheap. Had used Moneygram and West Union in the past, but seem these big boys dont like people who use the service on a too regular basis.
