Hi guys I've got a problem that I hope someone could help me with.
Bout a month ago I signed up for the Telstra $15/2GB Shared Data deal with the free Samsung Tab A and had my application rejected cause I was attaching it to a Tablet Data Plan. I then spoke to someone on the online chat who told me that the plan was incompatible and suggested that I could take up a BYO plan for a month, attach the 24 month Shared Data plan to it, then cancel said BYO plan when the month is over.
I wanted confirmation so I headed to the nearby Telstra store and the person who attended to me said the same thing so I signed up there and then. I was told to come back a month later to maximize the data given to me from the BYO plan and they'll cancel it while allowing me to continue with the Shared Data plan.
I go back today and now they tell me they can't do anything cause they're attached to each other. This despite me asking repeatedly on the chat and in person if it was possible. I even drew up hypothetical scenarios before cause I wanted to know why my Tablet Data Plan was incompatible and I didn't really want to take up a BYO plan unless I really needed to but I did eventually. They give me the complaints number and asked me to call em cause they were the only ones that could help.
I call them up the first time. The person tells me that since the plans are independent of each other she will be able to cancel the BYO plan. This makes the 3rd Telstra person to confirm this. She puts me on hold for like 5 minutes and then comes back and tells me she can't cause they're attached to each other and she'll transfer me to the cancellation team to see if they can help. I get put on hold for 90 minutes (till there was no more music to be played) before I hang up and call again.
Second guy I got was from the cancellation team. Super rude. He insinuates I mistook the information I was given (by the 2 people a month ago, and then the third 90 minutes ago?) and that I should've read all the terms and agreements before signing up, saying that I wouldn't just sign blindly for a car or house loan (because the $450 early termination fee from the tablet is the same as couple of thousands of dollars). He finally said he'll call the store tomorrow to check if what they said was true when I asked to talk to an ombudsman.
I think it's insidious to put a contract on an add on service knowing full well that the customer has to hold on to the main mobile line as well. Telstra's essentially forcing two 24 month plans (one for the Shared Data Sim and one for the mobile plan its attached to) for one mid-range Samsung tablet.
What are my choices now? Thanks in advance for the help.
