It's an American brand bottle. They write dates month/day/year. So really it expires April 2nd 2016
I thought about this but the number under the use by(020415) confused me a bit.
According to their site
"How do I read the date code on a bottle? We use a six digit coding system for all of our products. The code date information is located on the carton and the shoulder of the bottle. The following is an example of how to read the date code. This particular example references a product that was produced on May 12, 2011.
Example: 051211
05 – Production Month
12 – Production Day
11 – Production YearIn addition to the date code, there is also an expiration date printed on the bottle and/or label."
and
"What is the shelf life of each TABASCO® Pepper Sauce flavor? Our Original Red Sauce has a shelf life of 5 years when unopened and stored in a cool place, but due to the potential for color change based on light and temperature exposure, we say that it is “best by” the third year."
So basically, this stuff is good for 2 years! Hell yeah.
(Although you wouldn't want it open for 2 years..)
@brezzo: Or you can finish it within 2 years. :)
Best before is different from expiration. You can still use this even after the best before date but it might not taste the same after a while. Flavour is only guaranteed before the date on the package. While expired means, you can't really use it, might cause food poisoining or other health issues.
That's a great price and I doubt anything will happen to it well past it's used by date.
Yeah it has a fairly high salt content. I'm sure most people's Tabasco in the fridge is out of date haha.
In the fridge? Do you need to do so? I keep all my hot sauces in the pantry.
Yeah all of them. Apparently that's weird? Always kept sauce in the fridge.
Where should TABASCO® Sauce be stored?
TABASCO® Sauce should be stored in a cool place away from direct light, such as a cupboard, pantry or cabinet. It doesn’t have to be refrigerated after opening. Once a bottle of sauce is opened, the color may change, but the product won’t spoil. Refrigeration almost always helps to slow this process but isn’t required.
Unless it says to, there's no need to. Hopefully you don't store you peanut butter in the fridge like my Dad.
Its Tabasco Sauce, hows it going to go off? Any bacteria in there is just going to add to its taste.
Are you sure the Geneva Convention allows you to store this much of a weapon of mouth destruction at home?
More like rectal destruction…
weapon of ass destruction?
Do they have any deals on bidet by any chance..
Actually yes!!! They do have an Bidet toilet seat similar to this
Rocket fuel!
"Ring of fire'
+1 even though I don't even have tabasco
Do you have a Costco membership?
If so you're already halfway there…
Can you imagine the stink he'll make in the dunny the day afterwards…
He'd probably be wearing nappies for the rest of the week
that first one is habanero tabasco… ie. hotter than this one…
I like the fire extinguisher in the background
AHAHAHAHHAA this was so disgusting and funny
I'm pretty sure it's impossible to consume 3.8L of anything quickly as it's the average stomach capacity.
That first video is one of the greatest things I've seen in my life
Check out the guy's lip on video 2, it's like a sausage. lol
I've had Tabasco one year past date, it's got so much vinegar in it, It's totally fine in opinion plus this size is a great conversation starter at a BBQ
the conversation might go awkward when they find out the host is serving expired food.
"it's only the sauce everything else is fine" :)
Not so much expired but vintage like wine
Finally I get to fulfil my lifelong dream of having a Tabasco sauce bath!
Kiss goodbye to your family jewels too.
Speaking from experience?
Nope, just stating the possibilities.
Just put a plastic bag over them.
you'd want to double bag it ~ just in case
@blehgg: How about take it off first, then glue it back on later. lol
With this, I finally have power to destroy you!
Oh wow.. Which store OP?
Moorabbin
In title and OP please.
thanks.. wish it was in Dockland :(
Anyone know if its at ringwood? Also went to docklands to get my usual nando's hot 1L bottle theyve had since they opened, and was bummed when i learn they only stock the medium now. Anyone know if they have the hot nandos 1L at ringwood or moorabbin?
I was in moorabbin yesterday, they only have the medium.
I bought the hot in ringwood about 2 weeks before moorabbin opened (october?).
Not sure Tabasco will go off anytime soon. It's all kinda preservative isn't it? Plus which bacteria is happy living in Tabasco? I'd guess it's safe for some time to come :)
I can't conceive of a situation where Tabasco could go "off".
As in, there could never be a situation where it would be a spoiled, dangerous food stuff.
I suppose exposure to sunlight might cause it to discolour over an extended period, but there is literally no reason not to consume Tabasco at any age before it has dried to dust.
Whether it is a harmful food when fresh I'll leave it to the individual.Well said, I agree 100%
Yep, if this is at all true their quality control is impressive.
I love the idea of trying to consume 3.8 litres of hot sauce in 10 days just because it's cheap.
(Yes I know it won't be likely to spoil on the use by date)I guess it's a good deal for a Mexican restaurant owner. Who else can utilise a gallon of Tabasco? Sometimes we buy a tiny bottle of the souse and throw it away barely used.
Why would you throw it away? No way it can go off.
is the stamp American date (month/day/year) or normal date (date/month/year) ?
Would it make much of a difference for non commercial use? I doubt it.
Is it just me or does that seem like a lot?
Enough for a decade. Probably lasts that long as well with that amount of vinegar in it.
I was doing the numbers in my head based on how quicky I go through the smaller (355ml) bottles.
I like my hot foods (hotter than most) and cook mexican meals about 1-2 times a week and splash it on other meals/snacks at least 1-2 more times a week. I think I'd personally get 2-3 years out of this bottle, factoring in that I'd probably go harder with it due to massive volume.
Can you imagine taking the bottle and pouring tabasco all over a pizza….yumm!!
I already go crazy with my little bottles whenever I buy/make pizza. But going through that same motion with a 3.8L bottle is a whole new level :D
In reality I'd probably just refill 1 or 2 smaller bottles but not care so much about making them last so long :)
I suspect that you would end up using it a lot faster then normal as I don't think it had some of those special caps to restrict the volume of liquid that can come out to just a splash at a time.
Which is why I'd refill the smaller bottles (assuming they have the plastic parts and not glass, I can't say I've taken much notice)
Using it straight from the 3.8L bottle is madness :)
Glug Glug Glug….. Arggh Arggh Arggh
Jalapeno tobasco for about $44 delivered for 2 litres, so tempted, I love the green one, like $5 for a tiny bottle at iga
Yeah, I love the green one too. I can put that stuff on anything! Thanks for the idea, I might just get the 2L version from Amazon as well. I usually end up buying a bunch of the small bottles every time I go overseas. I just can't justify paying inflated local prices.
Its a best before date I'm pretty sure, this means they think the taste is going to degrade after that date.
Why anyone would pay this much money for it when they know they can't finish it is confusing.
also once you use up the tabasco ..
This will be perfect for drunken challenges!

None at the Canberra store that I know of. Need to make another trip over the border to check again…
Dammit. Was just there today and didn't know to check.
How much is membership?
ALL Costco prices should have "+ $XX membership" added after the price, otherwise it's misleading. You have 364 days to cancel your membership and get your money back if you want ;)
if you cancel your membership you lose your change of mind guarantee.
their warranty system is crazy. people were returning 3 or 4 year old tvs and getting full refunds.
your change your mind guarantee for an opened and expired $9.97 Tabasco bottle? :)
Costco don't advertise their prices
you pay $12 for a tiny bottle from coles
So I saw these at Moorabbin of $19 just before Christmas! I picked one up since I haven't seen them in the Canberra store.
Return that, buy this…
Haha even if it's not out of date now, it will be by the time you finish. That's a LOT of Tabasco to get through
Sure, if you're a wuss.
A short dated product at a shop for which you have to pay an annual membership is considered a deal now?
Oh boy! This is a hot one!
You know what needs to be done, OP.
SKULL! SKULL! SKULL!
If only it was Cholula!
can anyone confirm if its available at North Lakes, QLD?
Hey Costco.. open a branch in Tasszie!!
It's gonna be hard to consume all the Tabasco in 10 days !!
That's a lot of bloody marys.
I think I need a costco membership. I go through a 375ml bottle of tabasco in about 1-2 weeks, it's a very expensive habit :(
warning not for the faint hearted
I can almost hear the 'BleaAAAAARGh' through the gif.
Well that's one way to clear your sinuses! $9.97 is probably a bargain for such a cleansing too!
Sinuses, anuses and anything in between ;)
so i guess this is not avail in syd (Auburn) store?
Any deals on chicken and butter to go with this deal?
