High Performance PC Build - $1k Budget

Hey guys, this question is probably very annoying as everyone seems to ask it but is just too broad.
It's been 8 years since I last built my own pc, and it finally died today. The psu blew out, Hdd died etc.

What is the standard high performance pc specs for today ?
If some of you could just give me a simple build
Intel chip ? Motherboard? Ram ? Graphics card?
The psu and ssd I can pick.
Criteria high performance - main use upto 20 pdf files open at same time with word files, chrome, outlook and YouTube.
(Occasionally* Revit 2015 and AutoCad with use of lots of videos, powerpoint, Photoshop, but barely any gaming)
*these aren't too important what's important is that I am able switch between the PDFs and word very quickly while YouTube is running on my other screen and outlook emails pushing through seemslessy in background.

I haven't been upto date with the latest intentechnology or motherboards. Help from you guys will be very very much appreciated

Budget MAX $999

Use Logical Increments (Make sure you select Australia before you look at prices!)

The site gives you the best parts possible for a certain budget, and the options available at each price range, there are generally two options per component to give you some ideas. Best to have a look for yourself because I can't describe it any better.

This Whirlpool wiki article should help also, it suggests the best parts for different budgets.

I haven't built in a while so my knowledge is more from 12 months ago which isn't useful since the new chipsets have come out. Based on your budget I'd suggest you avoid "K" intel processors and "Z" intel compatible motherboards. The letters denote the ability to overclock which means they will cost more and will need more cooling etc.

Hope the links help, happy shopping!

    • I just built a high performance rig a few weeks ago (Melbourne), and its not a good time in my opinion. Haswell is pretty much sold out everywhere, but Skylake price are still fairly high when buying local, not even accounting for the low AUD. Called up MSY, Umart and BudgetPC, only MSY had an E3-1241v3 in stock, and that was the last one in Melbourne apparently. Same for RAM/Mobo, there was 3 16GB kit in stock, and just the one B85 mobo with 4 ram slots (luckily it was the one I needed). Similar story calling up Umart and BudgetPC. PC Case Gear has stocks, but they are consistently at least 10-20 dollars more expensive per item.

Could be a different story in Sydney though, as IJK reported they had plenty stock for my config, and the 32gb kit they didn't have on hand the ETA was a week.

Worst case, Newegg is fairly cheap if you managed to snatch up a combo. I missed a Z97 Asrock Extreme4 + 750Ti for $300 after conversion and shipping, which is like at least $100 cheaper than buying local. They have a warehouse here now, but its only small stuffs like RAM it seems. A i5-6500 + Mobo combo will cost about as much as a Haswell Xeon + cheapest Mobo available. DDR4 cost about as much as DDR3 here, and add in shipping its still cheaper than buying local

If you want to have lots of pdfs and other programs open then I recommend at least 16Gb or even 32Gb of ram, Most popular brands are good, but Kingston is my default choice.
If you don't plan to gaming at all, you might be able to get away without a delicated GPU and use the integrated one, save the money and get other parts.
H170 motherboard should be enough for your need, most of them are pretty much the same, so just pick the one with enough USB ports for you.
For CPU i5 6600 should be a good option given the budget.

    • I think I will come up with a Build and then post back on what you guys think
