Replacement iPhone 5 Battery

Could anyone please recommend a supplier of a generic replacement battery for an iPhone 5. I don't want to pay Apple to install a genuine battery and my phone doesn't qualify for a warranty type replacement. I'm confident to undertake the work myself and just need to source a battery. There are many many eBay suppliers with prices ranging from around $8 to over $25. Also there are non-eBay suppliers with a range of prices. Who to choose?? I'm happy to pay for a 'quality' generic battery, simply don't want to be ripped by Apple. Thanks in advance, any assistance would be warmly appreciated.

  • i bought an 8 dollar one
    worked fine for me

install time takes about 20 mins
just be careful removing the old battery

also check the type of screws on the iPhone bottom case theres 2 types

    normal screw
    hex screw

    • Thank you for your prompt response, including the heads up regarding removal of old battery. I now feel more confident buying a 'cheapie.' Also I've a tool kit and just checked I can unscrew the bottom screws.

I tried doing my iPod 4 a few years back, ended up cracking 2 or 3 screens haha.

  • make sure you put it together perfectly sometimes if you dont you stuff up the touch screen

    • Thank you, my plan is to adopt such an approach. I won't be rushing ……

  • ask one of those cheapie phone repair joints in all shopping centres, you may find they are not much more for them to do it.

    • Thank you, I investigated this before deciding on the DIY approach. The "cheapest" I could find locally was $50!

  • do it yourself
you dont really need to worry about the screen if youre not too confident just take your time

those shonky stores unfortunately dont repair your phone if they break it and trust me once you understand the removal process and follow the instructions to a tee youll be fine

alternative pm me if youre around brisbane and ill sort it out

    • Thank you very much for your reply, words of encouragement and kind offer!

I'm in Sydney unfortunately however I've decided on the DIY approach ……

  • Not sure if you tried with apple yet but they are replacing out if warranty batteries for the iPhone.

Got mine replaced free with Apple a few years ago. I had to put up a bit if a fight as the guy was reluctant but they ended up replacing the phone.

If you've had the screen replaced they won't touch it though so be aware.

    • Thank you kindly for your reply and link. Long story short, my son-in-law recently gave me the phone, I subsequently contacted Apple as my serial number passed the first online hurdle however was informed I was 3 months too late!

Bummer, so it's a DIY approach for me……

  • most staff at my work are supllied with iPhone 5 and come across issue which battery does not last for few hours. many reported to take the phone to Apple Store and got replaced with new citied FOC as batch issues. Perhaps worth to visit Apple Store first without mucking around yourself. Good luck!!

  • Thank you for your reply. Yes, I tried the Apple FOC program to be informed I was 3 months too late! Hence the DIY path I'm on …….

  • give the diy a whirl

Again thank you for your positive reply and kind offer of assistance. DIY already in progress with replacement battery ordered and expected to be delivered this Friday. Saturday morning the handy work will commence :-) Looking at various YouTube videos it doesn't look too hard, as you mention. I don't have any qualms and will simply take a patient approach. Thanks again …….

      • no worries
the hardest bit was the front screen removal it feels tight just use the spudger and gently lift a hairdryer will also be good to have nearby

once you get the screen out its a 5 minute job and a few screws to the battery it will also be tight use force when removing it but only enough as you need

        • Ok thanks …. I've seen one video where a hairdryer was used to help remove the actual battery. I'll see if the wife is in a good mood and willing to let her prize possession leave the bathroom :-) I'll let you know how I get on and will pm you if stuck.
