Updated my post to hold more info, dates, etc.
Cheapest flights from MEL > DPS return on those dates you have quoted I can see is Jetstar.
$504 return
You'll then need to add on baggage fees etc.
Look at skyscanner.netPretty good deals, looks like www.iwantthatflight.com.au. has cheaper flights that MITM mentioned, around ~$300. No idea what that includes though
Cruises are often available at great sale prices in February.
I've been looking into that, but unfortunately looking at most places, they depart from Sydney, and seem to be twin/quad shares. Not great, for going solo :(

And have you considered travelling domestically? Australia is a massive continent, plus the low exchange rate means travelling within Oz is a little more appealing…

easy to track prices over time for MULTIPLE journeys - however you must specify a specific destination for each.
