    Good deal.

  • The bag I was looking at is available for 50$ less on eBay.
What is the difference in buying from DCC ?

    http://www.ebay.com.au/ulk/itm/331307668552

    • Higher cost & no Click+Collect at Big W or Wollies… ie, from DDC.

Seems to be around AU $65 (incl Shipping from China, expect it by March) from eBay vendor "bulessky"

AU $71 for delivery by mid-Feb. vendor's eBay rating 99.9% with heaps of transactions.

    Is this Genuine Lowepro?

It can pay to wait for a elivery. :-)

PS in case I got the above link wrong, try:

  • Why not link directly to the site?

  • Everything is overpriced. Are there any actual bargains?

    • also, update the title to say "UP TO 40% off Lowepro"

  • OT: any recommendations for a 46mm lens protector? Where/what filter/protector to buy for my Lumix G 25mm f/1.7 ASPH. Lens from Panasonic? Thanks

Don't buy a UV filter to protect your lens. Unless you are shooting in mud fights or sandstorms, it's dumb. Just use a hood.

      • +1

Don't know why you're being negged.
UV filters have very little use in this day and age

        Modern coatings are extremely resilient

        • +1

Not so in this case, but weather sealed lenses oft require you to have a protection filter to complete the sealing.

In this case, I would agree with not bothering with a filter. The price of a good UV or protection filter is around half the cost of the lens. Probably not worth the investment.

        • +3

Modern coatings aren't resilient and if you have lenses you use often without a protector I'd bet a close examination will yield plenty of micro-scratches.

The truth is a scratch on the font lens won't impact most of the photos taken noticeably. They are more likely to degrade contrast and cause flaring than to reduce sharpness. If you don't believe me:

          1) Go to a zoo and shoot with your lens up against the bars. The bars "disappear" unless you stop down quite a bit, because they are thrown out of focus. (Same goes for your scratches).

          2) Lots of demos around but this one is most impressive - http://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2008/10/front-element-scratc…

If you get a scratch on the rear element of your lens it's a whole other story - that'll mess up your shot. Likewise fungus can have a big impact (and there is debate about it spreading to the rest of your collection).

So whether you put a protector on the front of the lens depends on if you care about keeping your lens as close to pristine as possible either out of pride or for resale.

A GOOD UV or clear filter also won't degrade images much unless you have bright light sources (often at night, shooting sunsets that sort of thing). Then you have to remove the filter or be very careful about introducing flare. You don't have to spend a mint on a good filter either. Just go with a coated filter for a known brand and don't buy fake or unbranded garbage on Ebay. Bad filters soften your image and turn it to crap. I know - I was fool enough to buy some and though I spent under $100 on a bunch of them, that money was wasted.

I own a lot of lenses. At least one $200 lens was saved by a UV filter - it fell inside a bag and the cap impacted the filter - front element would have been smashed. But I've spent a lot more than $200 on filters. So why? Because all of my lenses are near pristine and I'm not afraid to clean the damn front of the lens in the field with my t-shirt if I have to. I'm not stressed out shooting if the action suddenly flings a bit of mud or sand in my direction - sure I still avoid it but I'm more relaxed. I keep the lens caps on in the camera bag but if they come off once again I'm not stressed. I can probably count the number of times a good filter impacted an image on one hand.I shoot a lot!

        • Probably getting negged by all the Harvey Norman salesmen upset at losing those extra commissions. Don't worry boys, dummies still buy extended warranties.

        • @jjcf:
I bought once a Canon 5D Mark II at Harvey Norman. Only bought there because it was with 30% discount. Of course their price is always higher than anywhere else, but due to big discount, it was for a very good price. And because it was cheap, I decided to go with the Extended Warranty (3 years) as they also claimed that I could get a new model (which is not 100% true unless the price for the new one drops to the same price as you paid) in case my camera fails during this time.
After 2.5 years I had a problem with my camera and they reimbursed the price for the camera (of course not the $200 or little more I paid for the extended warranty), but I saved some money as any repair would definitively cost more than that. It took many days to get it sorted due to whole process, but I had a good experience. With the money I bought later the 6D at JB as they also had 20% discount, but no extended warranty

To each their own. It's a similar thing to screen protectors for phones.

Some people say the screen is less pleasant to view/use with a screen protector. Some people prefer one so in the event of a scratch, you replace a cheap screen protector and not a screen.

      • Thanks all for the advice.

  • Not to be out done by Teds? Is that why Teds is cheaper?

  • I think a lot of these prices are X% off the retail price- not the previous price. I was looking at a $159 lens a while ago from these guys. And now it's 47% off - but still $159, as it's 47% off the RRP of $300.

    • True. I got the Whistler BP 350AW from Teds the other day. It was $300 from DCC at the time. It's now $275, which is 40% off the RRP of $459.

  • The pro roller look like they are worth the purchase. Been wanting to get a roller for a while now.

The Lowepro ProTactic 350 and 450 AW look like pretty good deals to me. Excellent bags.

    • I'm tempted to replace my ageing Lowepro - the 350 should fit everything, but I might take my gear in-store to check.

      • Yeah I have the 350 and sometimes wish I got the 450 stop that I could have more room to store other non camera items.

        • I'm not too fussed about that, I prefer a slightly more compact bag when flying to minimise any risk of being bailed up for overweight hand luggage (existing bag is around 11-12kg). Just have to make sure all my gear fits ok.

    • I have the 450. it's the best 'war chest' backpack i have. A word of warning, the bottom section is long enough to fit a body with a 70-200mm lens fitted (with hood reversed) BUT it ain't tall enough to fit that body if it's as tall as a D4 :(

  • The Lowepro Flipside 400 AW Camera Bag - Black is on sale at DIGIDRECT for $132 + $9.90 shipping

I would just take it to JBHIFI and get them to price match as these guys have a store and not just online…
