  There was some problems awhile ago with unlocking Y550's..bagman used to be able to do them…probably your best bet…unless you wanna try the Web results like simunlock etc.

  Vodafone direct is a rip off.

  If you haven't tried on the Vodafone site yet, plenty of anecdotal on OzBargain about some people getting lucky with a free unlock.

  Going back, I can recall using some other unlock services (I forget the specifics) prior to Bagman (and decent email-account spam filters). They worked, but some nasty spam email followed. I doubt that modus operandi to have changed for some of those sites.
  Keep that in mind, with any email address you use to receive codes. Best to use a throwaway one.

  Also, be careful about the card you use to pay for any of those unlock sites - preferably prepaid or specific debit with small amount attached. A number of those sites still look to be based in Russia or Eastern Europe. Scrutinise the payment-portal address carefully.

  Also, maybe try signing-up to PayPal, again, but with all of the appropriate boxes ticked..?

    Thanks for the info, I will look at that. I will try PayPal again, I was peeved that at the very end of the sign up, a pop up said not accepted and it didn't tell me where I had gone wrong, just shut me down. That was a while ago.
