First thought when I saw these: What an age we've come to… 20 years ago people were paying more for a 512mb card.

A yways this is the first deal on ozbargain for a 512GB capacity card, which could be useful for future reference and price comparisons.

I'm sure the price will drop in the future as more competitors enter the game, but:
-currently, this is the lowest price on camel x3 (haven't even updated yet, still showing $349), previous lowest was $250.
-Reviews don't look too bad as 75% of people gave it 5 stars, but the 10% of 1 star votes are concerning, especially for a $200 SD card.
-There are only 2 512GB SD cards currently being sold: the PNY and the sandisk pro. The sandisk is selling for $400 USD, eeeek.

Wow my english is really broken at 3am

What an age we've come to… 20 years ago people were paying more for a 512mb card..! Reminds me of the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. "Give me five bees for a quarter", you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah: the important thing was I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones…

What does one do at 3am in the morning and they can't fall asleep?

I browse through my Udemy catalogue. I tend to fall back asleep pretty quick. About to start my automotive window tinting course now but expect to be back asleep by chapter 3 - how to trim film.

      • My application was rejected :-(

        • Well that sounds like quite a comfy job. She also states she'll put out a bowl of tuna and milk for you, so dinner is covered!

  • at first glance these cards seem to compete with SSD for volume , BUT I presume that they don't have the longevity e.g how many write cycles they accept before the cell is dead, and how many spare cells they have. There is sometimes the debate about SLC vs MLC, vs TLC and how long they last.

So more for low volume writes e.g back up your note book, movies in media players, cameras and Phones ?

Not sure how many devices have an SD slot that supports this amount of storage ? My little windows 10 media player has max 64GB in the SD slot support, but works fine with 1TB via the usb port.

This is cool but if it is micro sd it will be much better :)

I almost posted this myself, but PNY now use inferior parts in their flash drives so I suspect the same could be here.

I'd personally wait for a Samsung to drop this low.

      • I meant to type Sandisk. Woops.

  • i will wait for a terabyte card

    Yeah, 20 years ago …
    In Jan 1996, a 3.5" 1.2GB Samsung harddrive cost $259USD ( 1AUD=0.75USD at that time).

      close enough LOL

He is comparing a sd card to a hard drive so its not a good comparison
In 2004 I paid $130 for a 128mb Sd card for my pocket pc

So capacity wise this would have cost over $50,000 12 years ago

Here's an excellent deal for 8 megabytes:

  • 512GB is just ridiculous.

Back when Samsung first announced they'd made 32g chips I had a dream. That one day my one little desktop would have a good enough controller to be able to raid SD cards and they could perform at their potential. That the OS would treat all storage mediums as equals. That one day we would live in a world where I could expand my storage by buying another SD card. I still have that dream, only today, it's a little bit closer.

  • Guess it's OK if you back it up incase you loose it ……how long to backup 512gb to the cloud if it's for your phone.
