c'mon Queensland . Surely we could at least match the Victorian RSPCA prices

    • $200 for kittens?!
+ vote revoked. Thought it was $20 for cats all ages and size.

    • Qld rabbit price is $44000… Victoria is a bargain!

    It's official…
Dogs are worth 5x than cats.

  • Dinner! Should pop up in inala

    • Buyer beware! A true Ozbargainer will base the purchasing decision on the price per kg, not just the unit price.

      • Associated because I am also an animal? LOL

Our local Woolies usually has free dogs tied up near the entrance. Many different breeds available.

    • Any free cats?

  • Consider pet insurance for your new fur baby. We got it for our little girl from about the age of 5 years old and she recently racked up a pretty large set of bills due to a number of serious illnesses that came to a head at one time. Look carefully at the premiums and what is, and isn't included.

    • Any recommendations for a good insurer?

We have PetPlan and we have had no issue with them. However, whichever plan you go with make sure you ask them questions about what they will and won't cover you for and understand there is often an excess for claims; they may also reduce the coverage when the animal gets older - we can now only claim 65% due to her age and this is not something that is readily explained on the site. Dogs are usually more expensive to insure than cats and there are breeds of dogs they won't cover. We are covered for $9,000 a year and last year we went close to that cap. The problem is the bills add up quickly and it can be hard to know when to stop. The insurance gives breathing room.

        • Do they want proof of previous vet visits/council registration etc. in order to claim?

        • @maybeamacy: We only needed the case notes from the vet and to fill in the claim forms. (Might have needed the council registration when we first bought the insurance but that was 7 years ago so I can't remember now). We were so busy nursing her back to health we didn't put the first claim in for a couple of months. It is only reading back through the case notes we realised how close we came to losing her.
