  • Thanks OP! Might get some e-liquid and a couple of cartomizers…

    • Do you mod? I don't smoke but I seen some vapour mods pulling crazy amps?

      • I don't but have been looking into it, been vaping for a few years now and just glad i'm off the ciggies.

        • +1

I'm thinking of switching over to vapes, any advice on any good starter kit?

          Thanks

        • +1

@JepunK: See my comment below, VTC Mini and Uwell Crown is a very good combo, though might be a bit overwhelming for a beginner. I would try and avoid buying those cheap pen-style things, you'll inevitably upgrade and end up just spending more money in the long run. There's plenty of them around though, any Kangertech or Joyetech ones should be fine.

There's also the Kanger Subox Mini kit. I started on a pen-style eVod and quickly moved to one of these.

Can also get the VTC Mini in a kit as well.

Both of these can be purchased locally (along with many others) if you want the warranty support and would rather not deal with FastTech. Have a look here, they sell plenty of starter kits http://vapoureyes.com.au/

        • @unknown:

          Thanks man…will look into those

as for the nic juice where can you source them from? I'm thinking of using some nic liquids first then slowly tapering off

        • @JepunK: Depends. If you want ready-made juice there's places like The Vape Shop NZ, who sell more premium flavours in varying strengths of nic with cheap, fast shipping. Otherwise there's plenty of US based vendors like Mt Baker Vapor that sell cheaper juice and are recommended by many, although I haven't personally tried them.

          https://www.mtbakervapor.com/

Unflavoured nic for mixing you can import from places like NudeNicotine, Health Cabin, MyFreedomSmokes, The Vape Shop, and Mt Baker.

I buy and mix doublers (half filled bottle flavour concentrates) from local vendors such as Vapoureyes, Vagabond and Outerworld. There's two ways you can mix them… Buy nic double the strength you need, and just fill the doubler bottle to the top e.g. 24mg nic will give you 12mg juice. Or, the more economical way, buy stronger nic, like 50mg, and use an online calculator to measure the strength you want and fill the rest up yourself with vegetable glycerin (bigger clouds) and/or propylene glycol (throat hit).

          Good luck!

        • @unknown:

          Thanks man

I ended up getting the Kanger Subox Mini Kit with a 100ml light menthol nic juice (16mg) from Fasttech but couldn't order the batteries. Was going to get the same Kit from Vapour eyes but I notice they only have the bright blue colour left..

I'll have a look at the NZ site

        • @JepunK: No worries. For batteries I would recommend either Samsung 25R or LG HG2. You'll get two types of pre-made coils with the Subox Mini, one is 1.5ohm and the other is 0.5ohm, as well as a rebuildable. Start with the 1.5ohm, lower ohms will produce much more vapour and the 16mg juice will end up being too strong. I vape 3mg these days, any higher just gets too harsh with the low builds I do. You'll need to replace the coils eventually, so grab a spare pack or two when you can. You can get pretty much everything you need from local online stores apart from nicotine. Hit up one of the many forums out there or /r/aussievapers on Reddit, or even youtube if you get stuck, they're all pretty friendly and helpful.

cartomizers? get with the times, man!

      • I know hey! What would be your ideal Mod set-up for an old skool Vaper?

  • I just tried the coupon code, but it didn't work for me.

    • same here

    • You wont really find any other codes. They rarely do promos and there is a map code for map priced items

  • Ok, two qs:

    1) is there an Aus version of the charger or is the AC cable changeable?

    2) How good, safe are these batteries compared to eneloops etc?

I'm assuming this is good gear?

    Thanks,

    Reu

      1. Nope, you'll need an AU figure 8 cable or UK to AU adapter.

      2. Those are 3.7v 18650s, not AAs

      • Ok, nice pick up. Thanks. Perhaps I haven't discovered why I need these just yet. I'm not a vaper.

        • Cree Q5's. Oh wait, those are 14500's. You can DIY power-banks out of 18650s (but mind airline guidelines and chance for confiscation/loss).

        • @Lukian: I'd say the majority of good torches use 18650s

      • Also, to add to this, they are lithium-ion batteries vs nickel–metal hydride in Eneloops. Li-ion can explode if handled improperly.

    • its multi-voltage from 110-240 so you can plug it into the wall here i just used a old figure 8 cable i had…

well these batteries are more volatile but if you buy good brands and treat them good you will be okay. sounds like getting a wife lol!

So basically eneloops are safe to an extent but they can burn and melt and cause fires.
lithium-ion batteries have protection circuits built in (if you buy protected cells) to help prevent problems.

usually you will only have problems if the battery is overcharged 3.6-3.7v batteries usually have a full charge of 4.20 volts some newer ones charge to 4.35v being if you overcharge you will cause to much internal pressure and the battery might vent leading to flames!

lithium batteries like NiMH batteries have different chemistries a newer chemistry doesn't have built in protection they are called IMR = LiMn2O4 supposed to be safer and more reliable. the older styles are usually ICR = LiCoO2 these are the batteries with built in protection circuits!

lithium-ion of any sort should not be discharged to under 2.5volts it plays with the battery chemistry causing the lithium to form shards along the walls of the battery which can cause problems when charging (to much internal pressure)

so basically these batteries are the same size and alkaline and NiHM but they hold a lot more power in the same package.

  • What's the pick of the bunch for high discharge button top 18650, borh protected and non protected?

    • How high are we talking?

      • TM16 high.
        Hence requirement for button tops.

    • if you have the big cash lol! They are not button tops most high drain cells are flat tops you can add the top button on or use a spacer if need be?
those samsung i posted do about 7amp protected? i think you can buy button top cells that do about 10amp. i will have a look.
      https://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10004185/1659700-authent…

      • I cant find the amp draw on this in the 30 seconds I spent looking.

        But here is some info:
Samsung 20r and 25r, both are good and probably fit the bill

Both will pull 20 amps all day without issue, the 20r pulls a bit more but has less capacity at 2000mah vs 25r 2500mah

There is a newer Samsung cell which is supposed to be good too, I think its this one: https://www.fasttech.com/products/1420/10002357/2363400

I have also heard good things about the sony vtc4, be warned the vtc5's are copied and sold on ebay etc.

for general use any of the above I suggested will work well. If you are looking to squeeze the most out of your torch you will ahve to research yourself

  • Thanks, code worked for me. Finally got some CooLook LifePo4 AA batteries for my tiny cheap LED torches. Should make them about twice as bright compared to normal AA batteries :)

I already have the Nitecore D4. Good little charger.

    • What charger do you use? i need to buy a hobby charger.

      • I use the Nitecore D4 you linked to. Got it from aliexpress a year or so ago. It has a special LifePo4 charging mode too. Just be careful, you have to switch it manually, it doesn't detect them automatically.

    • You can buy AA Size LifePo4 batteries off the shelf at Bunnings - 2 pack is about $10, but at least they are easy to get. There are also a shorter Duracell 14430 and a fatter one which is AA length Duracell 18500

Beware - they need special charger, Constant Current (probably around 1C) like LiPo but with CC cutoff at 3,6V instaed of 4.2V. Also you need a low voltage cutoff in the device to prevent them going under 2.5V and get damaged.

  • Bought a Kanger Nebox from FastTech during the holidays. Highly recommended if you vape the same liquid all the time, but don't leave the nickel coil in there. It tastes funny.

  • Fasttech have a promo code for 20% from the 5th to the 7th of feb:

    KUNGHEI

I was going to cancle and reorder but decided to put my shipment on hold

    https://www.fasttech.com/forums/stickies/t/1994155/fasttech-…

    • yea they do but i think it is up to 20% so it might be less? i have the code but they are on holidays now wont ship for a few weeks

      • From 5th to the 7th its 20%. From the 8th it drops to 15%. Maybe thats why it says "up to"

Another thing is their map coupon code might be better on some products that must be advised at map prices

        • Do fasttech even do MAP sales? I have never seen one?
