Will a US or UK iPhone 6S Work in AUS

Hi!

I spent a couple of hours last night trying to find out whether a US or UK bought Simfree iPhone 6S (or 6) would work in AUS with a AU Vodafone sim (currently being used in a UK bought iPhone 5)?

When we moved over to Aus from the UK last Year we picked up a second hand iPhone 5 over a 5S as i'd read the 5S wouldn't work with 4G over here based on the frequencies they were transmitted at….I'm not sure whether this will be the same issue with a 6 or 6S for either the UK/US.

If anyone can advise or has experience I would be most appreciative!

Best,

  • if the phone is not locked to a carrier then it should work here.

  • Ok - great….good news!

  • Call Apple and ask them. They'll be able to tell you what frequency your phone supports. Whirlpool has a long list of all the telcos in Australia and what frequency bands their 3g and 4g networks operate on.

  • Thanks cDNA - good advice

  • Afaik Australian networks are now all "GSM" (instead of CDMA) - so be really careful when using CDMA iPhones (Verizon, Sprint) as they might not work. GSM iPhones (AT&T, T-Mobile) should be OK I think.

  • Warranty will not be covered. Each phone from each region has a specific replacement part number so they can tell when they look up your phone where it came from. If you have any issues it will be needed to be sorted from the country of purchase.

  • Thanks for your replies. Playing it safe by getting one from the Apple store in AUS. They are doing a trade in offer currently where we'll get $200 for our old iPhone 5 towards an Apple purchase. Yes, we could get more by selling it on Ebay, but the battery is knackered and I don't think would be a fair sale on eBay for someone. Definitely a good offer for us.

    • do you just take it in, they make an assessment then give you the credit on the spot ? Do you need the leads and charger ?

      thanks
