TPG Home Phone Number:

TPG will make use of your number as a reference point to charge for local calls. TPG will use its best endeavours to supply the Integrated Public Number Database (IPND) with your address details for the purpose of emergency services (000) calling.
TPG Home Phone Deposit:
At the time of registration, we debit $20 that is kept as a deposit for all call usage and $10 Minimum Monthly Call Spend shortfall. If your deposit falls below $5 at any time, your account will be automatically debited to bring your Home Phone Deposit back to $20.
Minimum Monthly Call Spend:
TPG Home phone requires a Minimum Monthly Call Spend of $10 per month. If you make less than $10 worth of calls in any month, your account will be automatically adjusted so that the difference will also be taken from your TPG Home Phone Deposit in arrears on the 1st day of each billing cycle. For example, if you only make $6 worth of calls in one month, we will deduct an additional $4 from your TPG Home Phone Deposit to bring the Call Spend Amount to $10.
Usage Quota and Speed Shaping:
Upload traffic is not counted unless specified. 1GB (Gigabyte) = 1000 MB (Megabyte). Unused usage quota forfeited each month.
1Consists of peak (8am-2am) and off peak (2am-8am) monthly usage quota. Speed will be shaped to 1Mbps/1Mbps for the period in which the monthly usage quota has been exceeded (peak and/or off peak).

2Consists of peak (8:30am-3:30am) and off peak (3:30am-8:30am) monthly usage quota. Speed will be shaped to 2Mbps/1Mbps for the period in which the monthly usage quota has been exceeded (peak and/or off peak).

3Speed will be shaped to 4Mbps/1Mbps once inclusive monthly usage quota is reached.

*Monthly Usage Quota:
TPG may, on giving you 7 days notice by email, adjust the start/finish (but not the length) of peak/off peak times.
Payment:
Monthly access charges are billed monthly in advance.
Payment options are Direct Debit or Credit Card.

IP Address:
All ADSL2+ with TPG Home Phone plans come with Static IP address.

ADSL2+ Speeds:

Actual speeds will vary due to many factors including distance from the local telephone exchange, the quality of the customer's copper phone line, cabling and equipment.
Free IPTV:
Free TPG IPTV Trial requires a minimum speed of 3.5Mbps. Number of free channels available for viewing is subject to exchange capabilities. Free TPG IPTV Trial does not include subscription based channels. To register please visit www.tpg.com.au/iptv once your ADSL2+ connection is active.

  • What kind of phone number do you get?

Im currently on adsl2+ with them, still got couple months on contrat. gay =[

    • mate read again the subject, i said new client to tpg only. sorry we still not eligible.
i believe soon we should be able join with this plan

    • says BYO number not supported - so guess its only with new numbers too. May as well get naked instead.

      • where did u see that?
"At registration time, you can choose to port your existing number to TPG or have TPG supply a Direct Inward Dial Number (DID) for use with the TPG Home Phone service."

  • ATTENTION!!

just called tpg since their information is confusing on the site.

the home phone line is only compatible with telstra, so if you are a current OPTUS customer etc, you cant have it.

and FYI the receptionist was VERY rude, i simply (and very politely) asked why the compatibilty issue wasnt on the site, she just hanged up on me!!!! and when i called back and asked for this Katrina girl, she even wouldnt pick the call and just asked her colleague to take my call back number??!!!!

Lucky im NOT a tpg cusotmer yet which i probably never will!!!

    screw you TPG!!!!

    • calm down please. phillipine hospitality :)

      • good luck with ur customer care later. its not me who needs it

    • +1

If you feel that strongly about it, lodge a complaint to TPG and get her fired. They might even thank you for bringing her bad behaviour to their attention as she must be loosing the company customer and money.

      • +1

Hi cloud226, looks like you had a very bad experience indeed. It not uncommon. I had one like that too and posted the experience here. The girl was also very rude and impatient to me. But my experience got removed from the forum for some reason. :-(

  • thats what i think, coz u can't use fax, alarm, etc, the feature that naked doesn't suppor.

    • +2

u cant fax on this either it says so the only benefit is that your line doesnt die when there is a power out.

      • yeah, thats better than naked.

        • +1

but not being able to port your number over sucks big time.

  • +2

Yes the first thing came to my mind was — why bother going naked? Very tempted now for dropping Exetel for TPG.

    • -3

      hi scotty

i voted positive first and now i would like change to neg, but system doesnt allow me

      please help

      • +2

Well that's the intended design that you can only revoke your own vote, but not able to switch side.

        • kinda weird, still thanks

  • +3

Great plan for a new/potential TPG user like myself!!!

Don't think it will solve my problem of no ADSL2+ ports being available :(

  • would switch but the no porting thing just killed it

but for those who are looking for a new phone line and internet (ie just moved house) and dont mind the new number, absolute bargain

  • +2

You could port your old number to a VOIP service and use TPG's new number for $10 worth of important calls where connection and quality matters (overseas. mobiles, etc.)
Then you get the best of both worlds with cheap calls via VOIP and reliable PTSN from Telstra/TPG for cheaper than line rental from Telstra ;)

    • Perhaps I'm not understanding properly, but isn't the "TPG Home Phone" basically a type of VOIP where all the hardware is at their end?

  • +1

TPG doesn't reward its current customers in any aspect~ i dont see why current customers aren't allowed to take advantage of this as long as they agree to a 18month contract

    • If they could offer it to existing customers they would.

AFAIK its to do with Telstra. Thats why you can't transfer over to naked too.

  • Not sure about $10 minimum spend. Seems better of getting naked dsl as you will get a lot more worth for call and same price

  • +1

I voted + purely for competition!! nice to see someone beat TelSucks & Opstucks

  • +4

"TPG doesn’t reward its current customers in any aspect" not true dude-they increased their data caps twice in the last say 6 months, the 30gb plan went to 40gb and the 100gb to 120gb for free, well you had to go to a static ip but that's a plus for some!

    • But new customers are getting the same too. TPG are no different to many of the other providers, including my previous, Netspace. All plan upgrades flow through to existing customers as well.

  • +1

You gota realise now capping is 1 mb/1mb!!!

  • It's a good deal but some people are confused.
after reading between the lines, I think I got it

    it's essentially NakedDSL + voip
    nakedDSL = $50
    VOIP = $11 (with $10 minimum spend)

this is why you cannot use phone line to send fax and they cannot guarrantee you can make 000 call.

    • +1

you wrong mate, please read again the fAQ

      http://www.tpg.com.au/homephone/FAQ.php
4.3 Can I call emergency numbers with my ADSL2+ with TPG Home Phone service?
Yes, with TPG Home Phone you are able to call 000.

and this is not naked broadband. read again below

1.3. What is the difference between TPG VoIP and TPG Home Phone?
The primary differences are described in the below table:

      TPG VOIP TPG HOME PHONE

Carried over Broadband connection Copper pair
Special Equipment or Software Needed Yes - softphone, USB phone, ATA or VOIP Modem No - just a telephone
      Standard Telephone Service No Yes
Preselect or Override to other carriers possible No No
Customer Service Guarantee Does not apply Must be waived by the customer
Number assigned Yes with Naked ADSL2+ based on your location Yes based on your location
Fax Transmission Not reliable Not reliable
Support for Foxtel, back to base alarms and similar No No

  • +1

Wonder if you lose the $5 discount for bundled TPG Mobile $300 Cap?

  • I have no idea why I cannot join this plan if my current phone carrier is Optus? Why TPG cannot switch my phone line to Telstra?

I am with Exetel ADSL2+ + phone bundle. Always forget who is my phone line provider.

    • coz tpg using telstra infrastructure. optus has their own infrastructure.
we might able to switch to any provider when nbn is ready.

      • what is nbn again? you meant to say "switch from any provider" instead of "switch to any provider", right?

        • NBN = national broadband network, there the gov has setup a new company and would like the owner for the whole network. so far telstra is the owner of the main cooper network. but optus also has their own network. a bit hard to explain all in this forum.
          i suggest you google it.

  • There ad is misleading. It's only available to people who have a TPG DSLAM at their exchange with free ports, and it's naked, so there is no line rental anyway. Neg from me - telcos need to be clear and upfront, not dodgy and underhanded.

    • mate, you need practice to read FAQ and term and condition.

Read this, they didn't ask you to purchase a special modem, if you have naked you need have a special modem that support the voip. So before you judging something, please read the term and condition and faq carefully.

      http://www.tpg.com.au/homephone/FAQ.php

      • If it was standard copper there should be no problem sending a fax across it. The point about requiring a TPG DSLAM at your exchange is valid as well, hence you did not address that (or mention it in your post).

        • mate, i can't comment anything. as i said you need read the term and condition, i don't have to post everything on this forum.

Edited - Mod: Removed personal attack

        • It is on standard copper, however TPG use thier own equipment, i believed called a MSLAM

  • can I ask? how is telstra line different than any other line? I'm a bit lost here and googling doesn't help much. Why can't optus customers transfer to this?

    • because tpg using telstra infrastructure, OPTUS has their own infrastructure. thats another reason, why they can not offer optus client. read again the faq and the term and condition!!!!

      • That's what confuses me. My house had a telstra infrastructure before I moved in, then when I moved in I switched to optus. Would I currently have telstra infrastructure or optus now?

However according to the FAQ I'm quite convinced that optus customers can't have this deal… But what about if I move to telstra, and then move again to tpg? This is an ongoing deal, right?

        • so i believe your internet with optus as well right? coz with adsl2+ they need to do testing on their dslam, so far their equipment was installed at telstra exchange.

          • @dragonrabit: Okay… But it doesn't matter right? If I'm with optus, no matter how good my dslam is, they still want to to switch to telstra before going to them, is that so?

            • @TimApple: the issue in here is, tpg doesn't want to switch from optus to telstra on behalf of you. they prefer you do it by yourself first then after you have connected with telstra infrastructure, they can do the connection.
it is all about the cost. by doing directly, it save their resources and less customer complaint as well to them.

              • @dragonrabit: That's very clear, thanks mate. I think I'll be going by that strategy.

                • @TimApple: but nobita, there is no guarantee if you can connected with tpg if you have pgs at your home. ohhhh don't ask me what is pgs please.. hahhaha
google it what is pgs, coz i live in the area where a lot of unit/townhouse/house still connected under pgs. you can change your pgs to normal line, but it might takes time. if you have the patient like me in the past. it pay off now, coz i am paying cheaper on my line rental and internet.

                  • @dragonrabit: ahahahahha, I tried googling "pgs" and "pgs phone line", but it doesn't give me anything good.

well, i guess i'll just talk to tpg help line then, i don't think it'll offend them if I ask this, since, as you said, what they want is for me to switch instead of letting them do the switch…

                    • @TimApple: dragonrabit was confusing me as well ;)
Then I stumbled upon some google references that made sense.
Do a google search for "pair gain system" and you'll understand.

                      • @Crownie: my mistake. yes crownie is correct. make sure that your house is not using pair gain system. if it does, still possible but it takes time more longer. coz they have to transpositioning from pgs to normal wire

  • AFAIK telstra uses copper and optus their own separate line.

  • My home alarm sends an SMS to my mobile if activated. Does anyone know if this will still work?

  • Looks like TPG is getting more appealing. I have been with Exetel Naked ADSL2+ and they have raised all plans rates by $5 after stripping off free VOIP call/SMS service. Big boo boo. This is virtually $10 raise to me. Also the way they change their price structure is very messy and confusing.
Exetel is not best valued ISP to me anymore.

I remember when I signed up with this Exetel Naked ADSL2+, I activated Telstra home phone service first.
Can I 'churn' to this TPG ADSL2+ HP bundle plan from Exetel's Naked ADSL2+ without Telstra active phone line contract?

  • shame you cant just get a DID for your current VOIP service and cencel when ever you want…. pennytel is still looking better voice incoming calls.

    • -2

Not a bargain for most existing TPG customers…

Called TPG to clarify the details on the options to get an answer of 'look at our FAQ on our website' … what's customer support for if they aren't doing so and redirecting to a site with hard to read T&C small prints

Their actual product may be good, just not this at all.

      • mate, please read the title again

"TPG $11 Line Rental (Included $10 Credit) for NEW CLIENT Only Bundle with Their Internet"

can you see what I typed for capital letter? "NEW CLIENT"

do you understand what is the different existing client and new client? If you don't understand the different. I can't comment any more.

so if you understand the different new and existing client. do you think your comment is approriate in here saying not a bargain for most existing tpg customers?

it is not for existing tpg customer. THIS IS BARGAIN FOR NEW CLIENT TO TPG ONLY!!!!!

macmine Stop spamming every TPG thread, You have put the exact same message up except changed a couple of points. I doubt you had the exact same experience calling up TPG about 3 separate deals / contracts / plans. I take it you had a bad experience with one of the deals and have decided to copy and paste into every TPG thread there is making it seem like you called up TPG about THAT particular deal. Hence i am going to copy and paste this response into each thread you have put yours into.

Look I am not backing TPG or backing you. I havent had any support person hang up on me YET…but i dont doubt its possible or it might happen and TPG are not renown for their support so i guess it is possible to happen with them. I havent had a bad experience with their support yet except that it can be hard to get them to realise the fault is on their end and the waiting periods can be annoying. I think anyone going onto TPG should be prepared for their support not being the best. Saying that I have actually had much worse support from Optus support teams than i have had from TPG. The only time support people have abused me were from Optus.

The problem with you spamming every TPG thread is, it then makes me think did this even really happen to you or is there an ulterior motive behind it for you to spam all the threads pretending to be on a relevant topic.

      • Lol, but you're also spamming every TPG thread by pasting this exact same reply to all his replies. Is your 'spamming' any different to his? I suppose you're just making your point but maybe that was his intention too?

        • +1

Dude, did you notice i specifically put in my post that i am going to reply to his spam with a copy and paste in every thread he put his into. So that people will realise that this experience of his did not happen with all the different plans / contracts but perhaps only on one specific one. I have no problems with him reporting his problems if it happened to him but only on the relevant topic, not on every other TPG topic. For people who dont know that he has done this may assume that it happened on each and every topic….

My Point…is not a LIE to make you believe it happened to him when he called up for all TPG plans but rather that it happened to him ONCE if ever… That is my point and totally different from his. Hence my spamming is different.

          • +1

@lonewolf: lonewolf, I was indeed calling about the 3 services over the three threads, enquiring about the promos with each attempt. Apologies if that seems like spamming, but it was indeed about the 3 service deals posted here. But I would appreciate if this was clarified before the presumption that I spammed without specifically seeking info about the three services. In the case of this post, I couldn't even ask about the details of the line rental and the cost of the calls, etc. because I couldn't get past the 'you've gotta have a line' gate.

And yes, the impatience did really happen to me. :) It's not the result of one bad experience amplified into three threads. And like I've mentioned, the experience was a personal one, so I stand corrected as it is subjective. And it being a personal one, I'm sure other forum members have had positive experiences apart from me. I believe that's what the comments are for, aren't they? To share personal experiences? Both good and bad, as reflected by the many good mates here, and from there on for us to make our own conclusions and judgements if the deal is really a good one.

To set the record straight, I shall elaborate on the other threads I posted too- if they are still around. Not to argue but to clarify, I DID make the calls and they WERE about the 3 advertised threads- for this home line rental for $1 plus $10 minimum usage, the other two being the unlimited plan for $75, and the $49.95 plan for 130GB with 1Mbps shaping.

  • has anyone confirmed that porting is not an option?
    There was conflicting info before.

  • +2

I also had shocking phoen service with TPG but signed up anyway as they had the best deal and didn't need the help desk for any setup. The staff actually tried to tell me I don't live in Sydney. I actually live in Sydney city and she said no that's not your addresses that's the capital city of Australia and hung up on me LOL she obviously hasn't heard of Canberra. Was bazaar? It's definitely a Filipino helpdesk and yes they did hangup straight away a couple of other times before even saying hello. I think they must have very strict call time monitoring for their performance which makes them hang up to reduce avg call times is all I can think of for this service??

  • So min cost is:
    59.95+20+(49.99+1+10)×18 = 1177.77
    being:
broadband setup + phone depost + (broadband monthly cost + phone access charge + min monthly call spend) * number of months minimum contract.

I still don't get why "TPG Home Phone does not support Fax, EFTPOS, Back to Base alarms, Foxtel program purchase and analogue modems." If it's a genuine copper phone line, just like an ordinary Telstra one, then why can't you send a fax over it? That seems kind of odd to me.

  • i often have bad service with TPG (hang ups, rudeness etc) but just spoke to a young man who was very helpful.

He said my line was not "naked adsl compatible".
I said I thought this is not naked adsl, but he said it was. If he was bullshitting me, I don't know.
Either way, I would not have gone ahead as I would be required to change my phone number, so no Porting is not an option
