It is easy to move between islands, they are short flights. If you have 4 days, and want lots of adventure, I would maybe try the Big Island. If you want relaxed with some adventure, try Maui. If it is your first time to the States and you want a bit of a mix, Honolulu is touristy, but I would prefer to stay at one of the beach hotels like the Outrigger Waikiki Beach resort. I stayed at the Outrigger Waikiki Reef resort a few years back (200m away) and the Beach resort seemed nicer.
I also note the prices seem high that time of year.

Pearl harbour is worth a visit as well, the hotels do day trips.

I second Pearl Harbour. We booked a "Circle Island Tour" for a day from Honolulu and it went around the whole island, out to snorkel with green sea turtles on a catamaran and then back via pineapples, lots and lots in one day but a really great tour. Maui was great for relaxing :)

Shopping at Ala Moana is an adventure too :) The markets downtown are touristie - but pretty cool :D

      Have an awesome trip :)

  • Thankyou for the post guys

We will be staying at one of the hotels at Waikiki beach

Is it cheaper to exchange money here?

  • Its probably easier to exchange your money here if you want cash. It is just as convenient using your credit card. After commissions with the exchange for cash it worked out to be about the same.

I'd highly recommending Maui and the big island. Rent a car and go for a drive Dollarrentals is Thrifty in disguise, its easy driving there and you can see all the sights. I've stayed at the hilton and Moana surf rider. Watched a scene from hawaii 50 get filmed at the hilton. And for chilling out next to the beach at the bar its hard to beat the surf rider.

Lots of resorts in Maui, just pick one. Hilo has limited options, I stayed in the seaside which was pretty old but themed hawaiian. I only stayed overnight to catch a helicopter ride around the volcano the next morning which i highly recommend and it wasn't very pricey, you get to fly around the caldera and get low enough to see the lava flows into the sea.

flying between the islands on Hawaiian airlines is very affordable and fast.

  • Long time since I was in Honolulu so wont advise on that.

But for best rate on US cash go for the Citibank Plus account. FAR better rates on money than anywhere you will get at a money exchange here (Sorry BTDroppedbox but your rates wont compare)

Its been discussed here many times (search citibank plus), its also been in the newspapers and Choice magazines. There is no annual fee either.

The Debit card that comes with Citibank plus transaction account also has NO foreign transaction fee. Plus the currency exchange rates are excellent too. I recently used my Debit card to pay a foreign travel website in a foreign currency. No fee was charged, and I got an excellent exchange rate too.

  • How do we get to these islands

Just googled big island and it's very beautiful
    Something I like to explore

Thankyou for the tip on money exchange I will look further into Citibank

    • Hawaiian airlines or charter

  • Last night I booked the outrigger beach resort delux ocean view at $2690 for 5 nights

There hotel seems to need upgrade as it looks old but reviews were good and price was fair

    Didn't have breakfast included
So those who have stayed there is it worth paying every morning at there hotel breakfast of eating out ever morning
