I went with a Dell XPS 13 InfinityEdge Ultrabook (with the Skylake i7 CPU). Believe the hype. It's an amazing machine and a worthy upgrade from my (gorgeous, but ridiculously-overpriced) Sony Vaio Z2.
Have you used a mac before?
Yes -> Go for the mac
No ->
Do you want to put up with Apples design decisions that may impact user experience and either have to do command line work arounds or adjust your workflow?
Yes -> Mac
No -> Windows
Both -> get a SSD
What are your main uses for it?
I have installed Windows 7 on Macbook Air and love it now. Mac OS was not my cup of tea.
Maybe current Asus Zenbook UX305 will be comparable, but touchpad on Air is so much better.
Dell XPS13 suggestion above is very good.
Doesnt windows on a mac kill things which make the Mac good in the first place? i.e. battery life
Battery life is not as good as with Mac OS, at 60% perhaps. Also it takes long for laptop to wake up from sleep mode.
Can't think about any other good things killed.
It is not the best decision to buy mac and use it with windows of course, but rather a way our if you already have one and don't like mac os.
Thanks everyone for your opinions/suggestions
A Macbook Air it will be :-)
I have a HP X360 which is a great machine; it is a bit heavier but doubles as a tablet. You might also be interested in the Lenovo Yoga series laptops and the Apple MacBook has a Retina Display and is still very light. Best of luck in the hunt.
