Invisalign braces

Hey guys I'm an adult looking to get braces (prefer invisalign) for crowding on my front teeth.

I got a quote for 7-9k with a reputable dentist. However I hear you can get much less overseas? I'm thinking of doing some traveling anyways, perhaps to Thailand, and hear with some dental products you get them them tweaked and updated with doctors back home after paying for the initial high cost.

Can anyone provide some thoughts? I have crowding on the 2 upper and bottom front teeth (medium not severe).

Thanks

stay local - braces take 1yr plus to work - need adjusting every 3 months - no saving going o/s

I used invisalign and its not all its cracked up to be. Sure it works and did what it was suppose to do but 2 yrs afta finishing my treatment, im still having to wear retainers at night aswell as permanent metal strips behind my teeth to stop them moving back to where they were before. OR do another treatment costing another 5k.
I paid upfront and got all my aligners and moulds becasue i had to move interstate after 2 wks in, found another invisalign clinic locally but still had to make visits every month. My treatment included having anchors attached to my teeth to help pull everything the right way so its not just a matter of wearing a mouthguard like device, but also shaping teeth to fit with one another. New dr charged me again for doing this, when the old one wouldnt of cause it was invluded in the price. My bite was also changed, it used to mesh or sync together nicely but i found i had to regrind a lot of teeth to make them sit in one another and not hit each other when i chewed or bite on something, again more $$.
Theres a lot of options now, some conventional braces sit behind your teeth aswell.
Stay local, every orthodontist is slightly different in the way they do things and are prob more likely to help if something goes wrong and follow through the whole process so ur 100% happy.
Whatever option u choose, IT IS TOTALLY WORTH IT!!! I smile more, more confident, laugh more and generally more happy. 18 months of pain n minimal hard foods, only regret, not doing it sooner!! Good Luck!

I had ceramics+metal braces and five years later still wearing my retainers. You are supposed to wear them since your teeth are constantly moving.

  • Go to orthodontist not dentist. The orthodontist is the specialist and the cost difference will be minimal so why not go to the expert? We just finished braces last year with our daughter and the orthodontist told our daughter she could not have the Invisalign braces as it wasn't suited to her treatment. We also found from calling the health insurance that the rebate on the braces was higher with an orthodontist rather than the dentist so the price difference at the end was negligible. It is a costly, but necessary procedure. I have heard that if you have a health care card then you may be eligible for treatment with students training to be an orthodontist. Not sure what the cost there would be. Good luck.

Invisalign may sound good, and certainly looks good. But it is quite a complicated process compare to old fashioned metal braces. Have you seen/feel an invisalign? Did you ask your dentist/orthodontist what would happen if the invisalign breaks?

Given you want to have invisalign done in Thailand…I don't think you know the process of having invisalign…or any orthodontic works for that matter.

My daughter (11 y.o.) recently had a quote for invisalign (12-18 months treatment) for $9050. Whereas normal metal braces only $7020. However normal braces would take longer (18-24 months treatment). Both treatment would require retainers after treatment for a period of time.

As others have already suggested…stay local, perhaps get second/third opinion from other orthodontist(s). There are other alternatives. Also, different orthodontists may have different payment plans.

  • My cousin is going through her Invisalign treatment, she has lost half of her weight(not a bad thing) and finds it very troublesome. Her treatment is very very long compared to mine. She has to take it off before meal time, brush her teeth before putting it back again. How old are you may I ask? I don't think it is strange at all for an adult to wear braces. I recommend you to check Damon braces out, it is a fairly new thing. My youngest sister had it and just got it off. It is relatively fast and painless, you only need to visit your ortho once every three months.
Now come to think of it, my cousin had her Invisalign years before my youngest sister got her Damon braces, my sister has her off now and my cousin is still going on with her treatment.

    • I'm 28. Just have problem with my front 4 teeth. There's crowding (about 1/3 of each teeth overlap).

Guess it's a good idea to do the suggery at least in Aus

      • I only had issue with four teeth as well but they ended up doing everything to match my bites. Just do the surgery here. Your orthodontist normally monitor you for up to three years after you get your braces off.

      • how about removing a couple of teeth?

  • A friend recently got their's from a place in World Square (Sydney City) and was quoted 6k. I can't remember the place though. Other places were generally quoting him around the 7-8k mark.

  • What do people think about the Groupon for Invisalign for $4800 at Wynyard Dental Clinic? Is it good or rubbish?

    Link:
    https://www.groupon.com.au/deals/sydney/wynyard-dental-clini…

I'm a bit skeptical because apparently this deal is on all year long.

I got quoted for $6.5k one place in Chatswood, which seems to have rather good service and quality.

      1. Is the dentist going to treat you at Wynyard Dental Clinic an orthodontist or just a 'normal' dentist?
      2. I don't think any reputable orthodontist would give you a quote of the treatment (any treatment, invisalign or braces) without actually looking at your teeth first.
      • The one in Chatswood is also a "normal dentist" but seemed well informed. Is there a difference? Also seemed that he had quite a bit of experience with putting on braces.

Yes it could be more than quoted. But as I've seen a dentist about it I can make a fair guess that I'm within the limit of the price quoted online.

        • Of course there is a difference between an orthodontist and a normal dentist. An ortho is a specialist dentist who fixes badly positioned teeth. If teeth has to be removed during the cause of orthodontic treatment, most orthodontists would refer the patient back to the 'normal dentist' to have the teeth removed.

It's like an obstetrician is not the same as GP. Yes, a GP can deliver babies, but an obstetrician would be more ideal.

I've seen a dentist about it I can make a fair guess

No, you can't. And you shouldn't make a guess on things like this base on what ONE dentist (not even a specialist in the field) have said. I understand you want to spend the least money to get the best treatment. But it is a medical procedure after all, you are going to spend thousands of dollars and at least a year…

If I were you, I would get a second opinion, not just the price, but what the best/appropriate treatment for you. And really, how could anyone give you advice on your treatment, and/or an accurate quote without looking at your teeth first?

        • Thanks. Yes I'll get a second opinion. I've noticed though most of the people I'm asking about this are Dentists. I don't think they're specialist Orthodontists. Is it worth going to an Ortho for a premium when I can go to a competent dentist for less? If we're talking about $2-3k difference, that is significant and after all it's the same product (Invisalign).

  • What do you guys reckon about my case - don't really need braces, need braces (but not a must), or must need braces?
