Can someone help me with question about a new PC I'm going to buy (resolution and graphics card power).

So I'm looking for a new PC that can do a bit of multitasking and also give me an ultra HD resolution, but I need to keep it under $500.
Anyway, this is the one I'm almost set on.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/331729038997?_trksid=p2060353.m14…

I just need to make sure it will give me a 3840 x 2160 which is the max resolution of my LED TV that I use as a monitor- I also need this resolution to come via HDMI..
I noticed on the ebay listing it says 'Only FM2+APU can support 4096 x 2160 resolution display via HDMI port'.

Does this mean I can run a 3840 x 2160 with this tower set up via HDMI?
Thanks for your help :)

If anyone could point me in the direction of something around the $500 mark that:
-will support 3840 x 2160 resolution comfortably via HDMI.
-Not worried about gaming, but need something that will be fast enough to use live tracking software whilst streaming sports in HD in other tabs (I'm a big NBA basketball fan and watch a lot while I'm working at home).

*TV is 42 inch LED UHD TV. I need as much screen as possible within that 42" if that makes sense.
erm but yeah…

Cheers OZbargainers!

just message the seller and ask them - then you will have the reply in writing and if it turns out it doesn't do what they say, you can return it :)

Quick Google search finds it's gonna be a struggle, it's just onboard graphics.

How big is the TV you intend to use as your monitor?

Resolution is all about viewing distance

You could get away with 1080p or 1440p on a 4k tv

    Having a 4k TV running at 1080p or 1440p isn't bad.

You could always put a GPU in later for that resolution.

Are you intending on gaming at the resolution or just browsing etc?

    • I need the resolution as high as possible for work.
I don't play games, but I run live tracking software which uses a lot of memory.

      Main needs:

-high resolution capability for cheapest price
-fast enough to use live tracking software whilst streaming sports in HD in other tabs (I'm a big NBA basketball fan and watch a lot while I'm working at home).

From your intended use the low refresh rate could be a problem? This motherboard can only do UHD at 24Hz from what I understand… which looks to be a limit both of the older HDMI version it has as well as the chipset limit.

Edit: To summarise - yes, it can do UHD over HDMI but it can't do it at 60Hz - not good if you are doing things that involve lots of movement I would say.

  • I think you may need to reassess your needs. Is there any reason (other than your TV supports it) that you need UHD?
Tracking software normally has a very basic video output unless it is live rendering 3D objects or using very high res maps.
Standard 1080p will look fine on a large tv/monitor and fill the whole screen if that is what you a worried about.
This PC you are looking at has an $50 CPU and $50 GPU. These are very cheap parts and will not be sufficient for good UHD output. I very much doubt that you will find anything to do UHD (acceptably) for under $500.
Also, if you look at the title of that PC you linked it says Ultra 4K, but in the Specifications it says the graphics card is 1080p HD.

    • Hi, yes I need UHD because I'm a professional online poker player, I need to be able to fit 16 tables of 'Pokerstars' software without overlap, and from some research, I need a UHD set up to do this :)

If I have to go up to $750-$1000 then I'll just have to bite the bullet, but I thought since I didn't need the power for heavy gaming, and just a bit of multitasking, then I wouldn't need to go over $500. Hope that makes sense.

edit: the tracking software I use is called 'hold em manager', and it saves, stores and sorts poker hand histories to your hardrive, and run live analysis and stats etc…It seems to use a hell of a lot of memory.

      Cheers bud.

So that means that on a 42" monitor (which is around 52x93cm) that each of the 16 tables will be about 13x23cm. Is that large enough to read? Remembering that you don't want to be leaning forward in your chair to see the top left and right screens otherwise you will kill your back after a few hours.

Edit. Just found a webpage saying that you can fit 12 pokerstars windows at 1920x1200 resolution, which pretty much any bog standard PC can do these days. Even with discrete graphics. http://www.firsttimepokerplayer.com/online-poker/hardware/mo…

        • Well sort of, I just can't have any overlap. And on certain days I have up to 24 tables at once, so I need it to be as clear/visible as possible when those tables are smaller.
Yeah I think I'm going to need to spend a bit more to get something more suitable.

      • Hi, yes I need UHD because I'm a professional online poker player,

You'd better not let the ATO know that… Hobbyist poker player who occasionally wins money on the side :)

  • if you have spent good money on a decent monitor, why try and power it by a cheap GPU?

    • Because my graphics needs are that high. I just need to fit as much content into one screen as possible….
Don't care about games but do watch a lot of HD sports.
But yeah, main use is to view as much on screen without 'overlay' as possible.

      • then you'll have to spend a bit more on the GPU

Make sure the TV is HDMI 2.0 compliant. A lot of the TVs from early 4k only had HDMI 1.4. For the 500 dollar mark or close to it you're looking at a GTX 970 from Nvidia or a 390 from AMD. If you buy second hand you may be able to get a 980 under the $600 mark which will give you alright frames should you be gaming.

Edit: Sorry just read it properly. You want a PC that does 4k for $500 total. That machine seems it will only go up to 1600p not 2160p (which is 4k) using the graphics card but using Intel graphics it may do 4k. You may as well throw the gpu away as you will have to choose between dedicated and integrated graphics.

      GTX 960 has HDMI 2.0

      Display Support:
      5120x3200Maximum Digital Resolution*
      2048x1536Maximum VGA Resolution
Dual Link DVI-I, HDMI 2.0, 3x DisplayPort 1.2 Standard Display Connectors
      4 displaysMulti Monitor
      YesHDCP
      InternalAudio Input for HDMI

It will however break the budget, since the card itself is pretty expensive at $279 minimum from MSY.

There is no point buying a HDMI 2.0 compliant GPU if the TV itself does not support HDMI2.0

You may as well buy a cheaper GPU and make do with 30hz UHD.

  • Well my TV does support HDMI 2.0 which is good.
So I guess my budget (and long term investment) will be better off buying something a bit more expensive with a proper graphics card and at least 8gb of ram?

Also thanks for your help guys much appreciated- I would have bought that other PC without checking here and been suffering some lag. The Ebay labelling can be pretty misleading.

    • I don't see what the allure of buying from eBay is. It's the last place I would buy a custom system from.

You know you can walk down to any big computer parts store, order exactly what you want and then have it build then and there in a day or two?

      • There is no particular allure, but for PC noobies like me, Ebay is an easy option and everything is listed/explained simply.

I have no idea what half of the components are that are listed on MSY's site, and don't know what's what tbh.

Just much more convenient overall (for me at least).
Would you recommend any sites that do something similar ?
